In New York -- which has reported about 70,000 violent crimes a year since 1998 -- police reported four burglaries in the entire city overnight, and said they had made arrests in all four.

Three deaths overall have been reported that were tied to the outage.

Calls came in for some 3,000 incidents of fire, he said, many from people using candles.

I guess we moderns have lost the knack for handling the open flame.

A street cop was just interviewed on FoxNews. He said the crime rate yesterday at the ferry boardings area was actually LOWER THAN NORMAL. That is good news, except for the liberal media.

I think Americans have mature after 9/11, every other blackout we had, we looted. I am surprised how determined we were this time. I think this is a measure of our resolved.

Aye, it's brought a sense of community to even the largest of cities- New York. I think back on 9/11 and its aftermath and some of the stories of a sudden "genteelness" among the citizens of NYC. People were suddenly more polite, more accommodating, more willing to work together. This sort of camaraderie can only usually be found in tight knit teams- sports teams, combat units in a warzone etc. Americans have perhaps discovered that no matter what happens and no matter what our differences, skin colour, religion, politics- we are truly one nation and we are in this thing together one and all.

This partly has to do with 9/11 I'm sure. Even the criminals were cowed by the possibility that this was terrorism, and people just don't take crap lying down anymore.

Lol thats great the country with the second amendment has lees violent crime in a balckout...

Second Amendment is effectively not valid in New York City. Although they do have plenty of guns, owned by both criminals and otherwise law abiding folks.

If the two New York senators, both from the NYC area, IIRC, had their way, the Second Amendment wouldn't be valide anywhere.

..."how does this compare to 9-11?"...

This was an electricity outage and 9-11 was a murderous spree by Islamo-fascists. Understand that Blitz?
