Funny that the Chrocknickel would publish this; they have been one of the biggest "pushers" of Liberalism in California.

Insert finger in mouth, withdraw finger, extend into air, determine direction of wind.

Right. A major effort has to be made by the California Republican Party, with assistance from the National Republican Party to defeat Democratic State legislators and replace them with Republicans in 2004.

Hell must have frozen over for the San Francisco Chronicle to have printed this.

Every word is true.

Interesting post, especially considering the source. However, what other conclusion can any rational person draw?

What a stirring challenge. Bring California back from the precipice before they plunge into the Pacific Ocean.

Democrats do not have the gumption to fight a war, they cannot maintain the peace, and now, they have become less and less able to carry out even the most pedestrian tasks of civil governance.

What they can do well, is blame almost anyone else but themselves when the fecal matter hits the high-volume air redistribution device.

California can be a great state again.

Expel 5 million Mexican invaders, change the law so that children born here don't automatically become citizens, open up the coast to offshore drilling, and vote for only conservative Republicans.

That'll do........that'll do.

Is everyone on vacation at the SF Chronicle for this to be published?

The editors of the Chronicle must have been out whining and dining when this rare article slipped through the net!

Well, just expelling illegals, making the State business-friendly, getting some good fiscal management (primarily, cutting spending),and having a conservative legislature will do it.

The pendulum is swinging, an epic, political sea change is underway in California. I can say this without a doubt, as Davis is marched to the political gallows by the people of California...

"the citizens of California are mad as hell and just aren't going to take it anymore."

You couldn't be more wrong, David. They'll take a lot more. Millions of Californians are prepared to vote more Democrats into office. They would gladly wreck the entire United States, just as they have wrecked California, by voting Democrats into national office.

These people have not learned their lesson--not by any means!

"liberal Democrats that dominate the state Legislature have taken us down the garden path for the last four years"

For a lot longer than that, David, and they would love to take the entire U.S.A. down the same "garden path" to destruction.

"In every major category, the liberal-controlled Legislature has set California on a collision course with the concrete wall of reality."

In every major category, THE ENTIRE DEMOCRAT PARTY has set the United States of America on a collision course with the concrete wall of reality. The only question is: Will the voters wake up before these DEMOCRATS completely destroy America and end the American Dream forever?

If California voters are any indication, the answer is a resounding NO!

I had the same surprised expression on my face as you and other posters as I read this article, published in the San Francisco Chronicle, of all places. But this is a token conservative piece in the Chronicle.

The author is a former member of the legislature, and now the head of the Pacific Legal Foundation. Pacific is one of a small group of legal charities across the country that regularly fight to enforce the Constitution as written. Those two facts give him the clout to get this published.

And, note that this is edited down from a longer piece that was published in a political science journal. That's why it is so tight, factual, and good. This is a fine article. But do not conclude from its publication that the Chronicle leopard has changed its spots. The paper and its various employees will be back at the same old, non-factual liberal stand in other articles today, tomorrow, and all the days after that.

Congressman Billybob

Latest column, "Nuts and Bolts in California" posted on FR, also published in San Francisco and on UPI.
