Here is a link to a program that is supposed to help get rid of worm, etc. viruses. Maybe it works okay, maybe not. Any other ideas?

The above link will direct you to McAfee's "Stinger" page. I am in the process of trying it right now.

So far the answer for me has been Norton SystemWorks; completely and automatically takes care of everything, including virus and worm updates.
I've seen Norton catch many bugs that McAfee and others missed.

"I've seen Norton catch many bugs that McAfee and others missed."

That has been my experience too, but I have had to remove it becaise it bogs my system down terribly and really gobbles up resources.

That one worked very well for me. Not that I had the worm but I fixed a friends PC.

Go here and get a virus program that catches viruses that even McAfee and Norton miss. Best of all it is FREE. No adware no spyware, nothing. Updates are free too.
Also it NEVER caused connection problems or problems with my OE like McAfee and Norton.

http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

It is excellent and has caught virusi that they hadn't even written and update for. Has a great heuristics engine.

I received about 20 of these damn "sobig" viruses in my email box this morning. Norton AntiVirus 2003 scanned and deleted every one of the them. The hint and trick is to make sure that your virus files are constantly updated, even if you have to do it manually.

Grisoft bump

I agree with JSteff. AVG is EXCELLENT and I have used McAfee and Norton and many others extensively. No point in using anything else for viruses.

Thank you so much, I am bookmarking this thread. I hope to get the laptop back tomorrow. I think that Norton is being installed on it.

I downloaded something to stop the bad juju on my office computer last night, but it slowed everything down so I removed it. Now I am naked.

Well --- I saw the "Now I am naked" statement, and started to get excited.

Then I saw "Hillary's Lovely Legs" and it ruined the moment. Now I am inpotent...
