To blame Bush for this insane. It was Clinton that put in NAFTA. This is an agenda driven story-- just reading it makes it seem like the Democrats are against free trade. The truth is the textile workers don't have anywhere to go. I want more American jobs, I want to protect our manufacturing base, but there is little that can be done. The world has moved and America has been designater an information economy. It is a shame, but it seems to be something that can't be undone.

Ha. The last poll I saw out of North Carolina showed Bush clobbering favorite son Edwards by 20 points. Someone in the media must've forgotten to tell North Carolinians that they're supposed to be mad at Bush for something.

It is really sad to see N. Carolina’s Senators and Congressmen in Washington ( both Democrat and Republican ) cast votes which reperesent the interests of their Party rather than the interests of their constituents. It is even sadder to consider that N.Carolina is not unique.

Job entitled victocrats certainly aren't economic free-agents. What is lost are your reasoning skills.

The cure for suicidal levels of outsourcing is a series of treason and espionage investigations. These investigations would be two fold. Firstly, all operations in the US must be investigated (and if applicable, prosecuted) regarding just who are the non Citizen employees and contractors (including a full security clearance investigation to determine past and present membership in hostile military, intelligence orgs and terrorist operations) and what they are allowed to do and see at their hiring companies. Secondly, all overseas operations and outsourced suppliers must be investigated similarly with the addition of explicit studies regarding transfers of knowledge and technology which could be used by the Communists, Islamists and other anti Western forces in a future and highly probable war of mass destruction. For all positive findings headquarters leadership would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. This proposal was documented via a white paper which was distributed to Homeland Security, the DoJ and other Federal investigative authorities and intelligence agencies.

bush is in deep deep trouble in those states whereever an american worker was outsourced by a cheap Indian or where his factory moved to china. It is time he started thinking about american workers and american factories.

Instead of blaming Bush, how about blaming the skyrocketing legal exposure and regulatory burden that makes running a business so prohibitive?

I guess North Carolina is going to vote for the One World Socialists on the left, then. Right?

The situation is nowhere as dire as it will be if we don't bring what we can of our capitalism to our southern neighbors. As a Texan I can see it. And so does George Bush. Have you ever been to Mexico?

Lemme get this straight...

NAFTA was passed on CLINTON'S watch, yet when the bottom finally falls out on BUSH'S watch, the disenfranchised voters want to make HIM pay by voting for a Clintonista?

Free trade is great for keeping the market competitive and prices down, BUT, everyone knows it does NOT work with communist countries. Duh! Guess we can just keep hoping Congress may one day use some common sense when making our laws. Our founding fathers were very well read, intelligent men AND in general used common sense when passing laws.

Well, he still has one supporter:

"But, in general, the protective system of our day is conservative, while the free trade system is destructive. It breaks up old nationalities and pushes the antagonism of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie to the extreme point. In a word, the free trade system hastens the social revolution. It is in this revolutionary sense alone, gentlemen, that I vote in favor of free trade." ~ Karl Marx, On the Question of Free Trade, January 9, 1848 http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1848/01/09ft.htm#marx
