A Welsh woman told her husband and son she was going to the shop, then boarded a flight to Australia to be with a man she met on the internet.

Margaret Fiore, 40, has now been granted permanent residency status in Australia and says she has no regrets about leaving husband Chris, 53, and son Sam, 13, for an Adelaide factory worker called Steve.

"Life with Christopher was dull," Mrs Fiore, who has had her lover's name tattooed on her shoulder, told British newspaper the Daily Mail.

"We never talked, which is why I spent most evenings on the internet.

"Steve was a rebel like I used to be and Adelaide was so much more glamorous than Cardiff.

"Life's too short to settle for misery."

The Fiores had been married for 18 years when Mrs Fiore began spending up to 18 hours a day talking to strangers in internet chatrooms.

Mr Fiore said he did not see her seven-month friendship with Steve as a threat, as he was on the other side of the world and was himself married with a young daughter.

On the day his wife left, he suspected something was wrong but his son, who has since had counselling to come to terms with his mother's departure, had no idea.

"Sam was having his breakfast in front of the TV and Margaret said she was nipping down the shops," he said.

"She just walked out of the house and never gave him a backward glance.

"I was gutted and shocked but worst of all was trying to explain it to Sam. It was hard telling him his mother had abandoned him for a stranger on the other side of the world.

"I hope she finds happiness, although I can't honestly say that she deserves it."

Steve has left his family and the pair plan to marry, the paper said.

Mrs Fiore said she did not tell her son she was leaving because she could not face it.

"I couldn't drag him with me to the other side of the world but I couldn't face saying goodbye to him either," she said.

"Sam says he's OK about things now and has promised to visit me."

While going through a divorce, my now ex threw our children out. We were watching the movie "romancing the Stone", when my younger son (age 9 at the time) jumped up and ran crying to our one bedroom.

I went to console him and he cried out "Daddy, I don't understand" (since this was before I learned about her boyfriend, I confessed that I didn't understand either.

At this point my older son (age 11) passed by the bedroom and said "it's easy Chris, Mom dumped us"..... Out of the mouths of babes.

One of my innumerable cousins had a wife who pulled this. They had nearly grown children. She left him for some guy she met on the internet.

1. She lost the house and kids.

2. She got pregnant at age 40.

3. Her new husband dropped dead of a heart attack shortly before the child was born.

4. She is now alone and has to raise a child until she is 58.

Life sometimes punishes such behavior.

You've obviously missed the dozens and dozens of cases very similar to this. The wife at a farm market my father goes to has left her family -- twice -- for guys she met on the Internet. The think that these "life is too short" people need to realize is that once they stop being fun (i.e., get sick, old, etc.), all of their "friends" will suddenly find out that "life is too short" to waste on a "friend" who isn't fun.

It may have happened dozens of times, but it's still shocking. In a way, it's like terror attacks - it's happened before, it'll happen again, but that doesn't diminish the depravity of any individual attack.

At some point, we collectively decided that it was better to remain children than to grow up. Thus we embrace "living for today" and a lack of responsibility. Why? Because we can get away with it for years before it finally catches up to us. We are all affluent enough to be jackasses.

As for Original Sin, pay careful attention to exactly what Adam and Eve eat and what it does to them before God catches up to them.
