Media Omission

Posted on 08/30/2003 3:04:34 PM PDT by annyokie

This is an interesting bit of information that you don't hear much about in the media --- Certainly there is a political dimension here:

a.. Enron's chairman did meet with the president and the vice president in the Oval Office.

b.. Enron gave $420,000 to the president's party over three years.

c.. It donated $100,000 to the president's inauguration festivities.

d.. The Enron chairman stayed at the White House 11 times.

e.. The corporation had access to the administration at its highest levels and even enlisted the Commerce and State Departments to grease deals for it.

f.. The taxpayer-supported Export-Import Bank subsidized Enron for more than $600 million in just one transaction. Scandalous!!

g.. BUT...the president under whom all this happened WASN'T George W. Bush.

h.. SURP RISE ......... It was Bill Clinton!

Why are the President's people not getting this info out? I have heard this before; also that Ken Lay was a big supporter of the Kyoto Treaty because he could have profitied from it.

Snopes is good to refer to and you don't need to be sorry for posting it. I just read them with the same jaundiced eye as I do the NYT. LOL

The information is either true or not. Some, at least is true. If Snopes is correct, it is better to know before we start quoting this as gospel. Nothing makes one look more foolish then loudly proclaiming untruth. If this is true evidence exists and it can be confirmed.

President Clinton's first vacation was his golf trip to Vail with Ken Lay of Enron in 1993.

Clinton returned to Vail in 2003 with Sharon Watkins, of Enron whistleblower fame.

We can always state, as documented fact, that Arafat was the MOST frequent visitor at the White House during the Clinton years.

It stunk in the 90's but post 9/11 and the world of terrorism, it illustrates yet another example of how impaired Clinton's judgment was.

I would hope they are just keeping lots of dry powder on hand for when it counts. Anything now would just be smoke and noise that will be forgotten come election time. The polls are fine now, and it will be ready for a counter attack when it counts, if Rove is as good as advertised.

There was an article posted on WorldNet Daily (I believe) that discussed the political leanings of Snopes.com owners' and how they have treated some stories that were negative on dimocRATs and the left. It was interesting.

Found it! And it is very interesting. Thanks.

That’s only if interns do not count as visitors, right?

Seriously, I was not aware of that – I would have guessed Blair – do you have a source?

Do you have a source?

Chairman Arafat already holds the title of the administration's Most Frequent Visitor — President Clinton has held more tete-a-tetes with the Palestinian leader than any other world leader during his eight years in office.----Time Magazine

Why aren't the President's people getting this out?

According to Bill O'Reilly, "The Democratic leadership made it quite clear to Mr. Bush that he would not get any cooperation - zero - on the part of the Democrats in the Senate and in the House if he pursued any kind of a criminal investigation against Bill Clinton."

O'Reilly said that according to his source, "Basically, they said look, if you embarrass us - by us we mean the Democratic Party - if you, Bush-Ashcroft, indict Clinton on bribery or go after Hillary or any of this - we're gonna shut you down. We're not gonna do anything. You're not going to get any [legislation] passed in four years."

I'm headed out so can't go find links, but it was widely reported even in the NYT and Washington Post.

It's been discussed here on FR, with links, and on the Capitol Gang, etc.

You wouldn't need sources if you read some of the articles posted here at the time, NOT from the mainstream press. The Indian power plant was an egregious example of bribery and corruption, especially since it was just coming unraveled when the Enron scandal broke--or rather was orchestrated by the press with the obvious intention of duplicating Watergate.

I am no defender of Clinton, and I realize that if there were any political shenanigans regarding Enron the vast majority would have had to taken place during that administration if only because Clinton was in power for so much more of Enron’s history than Bush was. However, when specific allegations are made – irrespective of whether I want to believe them or not – it is only prudent to attempt to verify them.

I could allege that Clinton did it with a goat (I am not so alleging) with out some type of proof it would be so much chatter. Please understand, I am in no way questioning Anyokie’s credibility or honesty my concern is that information used to defend Bush or condemn Clinton is accurate; otherwise we – conservatives – appear foolish. If it is accurate, I want to be able to cite the source.
