I'm waiting for Arnold to say something that will give me the least bit confidence in him.

"I am firmly opposed to raising taxes. Californians are already overtaxed. California has one of the highest tax burdens in the nation, and just about everything a Californian does today is subject to one tax or another. From the moment you get up in the morning until you go to bed at night, the tax collector is there to take a share - at your home, in your car, at the gas station, at the restaurant, and just about everywhere else you go and everything else you do.

"It's unfair to accept the notion that hitting taxpayers up for more money is the answer to our state's budget and economic problems. Politicians in Sacramento should find a better way to turn things around – not simply shift the burden of their mistakes onto the backs of taxpayers." -- Arnold Schwartzenegger.

Ahnold didn't flinch, totally ignoring the egg. He just went on walking through the crowd shaking hands and smiling. An aid wiped the egg off him and then took off his egg-stained jacket.

The sad thing is that I cannot dismiss the possibility of that.

...and the speech will likely suck the wind out of the free-for-all in Walnut Creek tonight.

No, the press not covering it will suck the wind out. If Arnie was there, it would be on Fox News and CNN. Friggin' celebrity gushing. It's sucking the wind out of the recall itself.

If it wasn't for Arnold this "recall" would be a race between Davis and Bustamante.

dishonest.
there is NOTHING that can be said or DONE that would cause to consider Arnold for any reason.

And if YOUR candidate drops out and endorses arnold you STILL wouldn't vote for him... He's a rino. To you, rinos who are not 100 percent with YOU, are worse than democrats who work to destroy EVERYTHING you believe in.

so the fact is, you are NOT waiting for anything but to do your part to elect a democrat who you oppose 100 percent, instead of the "rino" that is closer to your position...

and that not only applies to you but the other fourty seven and shrinking percenage of freepers who agree with you.

I cannot wait for JimRob's next poll...

I doubt they would "only" throw eggs...
we had one here a week ago that was encouraging more violent and forceful means of getting rid of 'rinos'.

The biggest, most powerful special interest is the teachers' union. They have to be taken on.

Probably, it was one of their group that threw the egg, too.

Arnold has stated that he will only raises taxes in an emergency, citing natural disaster and terrorist attack as just two examples. It has been argued that California is in a fiscal emergency. What can Arnold offer us to allay our concerns that he will use the fiscal crisis as an "emergency" to justify raising taxes?

Maybe the fact that he hasn't characterized the fiscal crisis as a "natural disaster." Besides, your speculation is applying a far-reaching assumption onto what Arnold might or might not do.

In the wake of any large-scale catastrophe, FEMA and the federal government step in, so the cost is mostly on the federal dime.

Not if there are substantial infrastructure repairs, like repair of state highways, state buildings, bridges, etc.

What can Arnold offer in the way of incentives to businesses to return to California if he won't cut taxes?

Simply vetoing job-killer bills forwarded from the Legislature would be a start.

if he offers financial support incentives, where will that money come from?

He hasn't, so this is a non-issue.

The new governor's priority will be to address the 38 billion dollar debt. How can this be done without at least cutting budgets across the board? What does Arnold propose to do in this respect when he has already made moves to let the Teacher's Unions know that he considers their budgets off-limits?

The public education budget (K-12) is off the table because funding levels for K-12 are guaranteed by the state constitution (Prop. 96). That proposition was a huge mistake, but there is nothing anyone can do about it unless the Constitution is amended.

Arnold has cast his hat into the ring to be a politician. As a politician, what does he think should be done to "find a better way to turn things around," other than punting the issue to other "politicians"?

Like it or not, the next governor is going to have to work with the current cast of politicians in Sacramento -- the current Legislature. If they are unwilling to work with him, we need a governor who is able to go over their heads, directly to the people. Arnold has the skills and the popular appeal to do this.

Too bad he didn't wipe the egg off, turn and give one of those long, hard looks at the guy, and say "I'll be back". That would have had the little weenie who threw it pooping in his pants.

How about this from a McClintock supporter. He says that I inspire the rape of children. Nothing is beneath them.

Yeah, I saw that thread, and was in the process of blasting the guy, but it was deleted by the Overlords before it gathered more than a couple of comments. It was one of the lowest things I've seen posted on FR.

Regarding the repeated accusation that Arnold will simply declare the fiscal crisis an "emergency", I saw an account several days ago where he was asked specifically that question and he said he wouldn't. I'm pretty sure it was about one of his radio interviews, but he's had several already.

Had I known it was become such a DNC talking point, I would have saved the information. Now I can't find it and don't like insisting a fact without something to back it up :-(

A note to all, please, if anyone heard it or knows where this was written, could you let me know?

Thanks :-)
