Ithaca Mayor hopefuls support same-sex marriage

ITHACA -- All four candidates for City of Ithaca mayor spoke out Thursday night in support of same-sex marriage, some kind of diversity training and future Pride Day proclamations like the one made at the Out in the Finger Lakes pride celebration in June.

Lerner said he recently was asked by one man on his stance on gay marriage. Lerner said he told the man that he wished it were legal and that he thought it was the right thing to do. The man told Lerner that he cared more about morality than the city budget and slammed the door in his face, Lerner said. Lerner said the experience reminded him of the kinds of obstacles and hatred some people face on a daily basis.

The real question is why these candidates for local office are spending their time kowtowing to a special interest group, instead of concerning themselves with city finances.

Glover said the city's mayor should promote that "style of freedom" beyond Ithaca, in both the county and throughout the state.

Another example of Ithaca trying to export it's "special" brand of extreme liberalism beyond its own borders.

Ithaca is the City of Evil.

Saul, a lieutenant in the Ithaca Police Department, said there were few better issues on which the city could lobby the state and that he would be proud to officiate at the first same-sex marriage in Ithaca. "The time has come," Saul said.
And he's the candidate who has also been endorsed by the Republican Party.
