No if Bustamante is defeated he vacates his office. I have read the sections of the California Constitution that apply and I didn't see such a requirement. IMO, Bustamante gets to hold his office if he is defeated in the recall and will appoint a successor if he is elected.

I guess the courts will decide if the Lt. Governor's office is vacant as a result of Large Breasts' being a declared candidate for Governor.

Tom is the kingmaker.
He can decide which of 2 others will be governor. Let's hope he'll do the right thing......and soon.

In the 1970s, Republican Lieutenant Governor Mike Curb kept Demonrat Moonbeam Brown in Calfornia by threatening to appoint judges capable of reading and applying the constitution. The LG is Acting Governor when the Gov is absent from the state.

Arnold's attempt to pass himself off as a Republican in spite of being pro-abortion, pro-lavender, anti-gun, pro-tax and pro-spend is what splits the party. The lady has the advantage of being right.

That issue will not arise. If Bustamante ran for the Senate with two years remaining in his term, he would keep his office as LG if he lost the Senate race. Any case filed to try to declare the LG's office vacant would not be filed by any responsible law firm and, if it were, it would be dismissed very promptly.

>> "In theory, he could appoint DAVIS!!!" <<
True, and then (put on the tin foil) Busted could resign and Davis would be Gov again.

"and would making staying in his old job untenable"
When Governor McClintock goes out of State, Buster becomes acting gov and would wield some semblance of power, so, why would he want to resign? Being Lt. Gov. still keeps his name before the public.

If Busty wins? Yasser Arafat.

This entire thread is pathetic. Even 6th grade social studies student should know that in California, the Lt. Governor's post is an independently elected position.
Sigh.

Yes, of course. We are all entitled to our opinion; however that does not mean we are always correct.
I simply stated that there is no reason to bash a member of our own part.

You left out pro-illegal aliens. Now that is just not true. I have heard him say over and over again the he does not support illegal aliens coming over the borders into our states. He has even suggested a meeting with the governors of border states to discuss the problem and try to get the Federal government to really do something about it. And in addition, he believes in establishes English as the offical language of the U.S.

I recommend Arnold pick Tom McClintock as his Lieutenant Governor I recommend that Arnold drop out upon agreement to serve as McClintock's Lt. Gov. The position is mostly a functionary, PR position and Schwarzenegger would fill it nicely. Leave the actual governorship to the grownups like McClintock.
