"I'm for choice. The women should have the choice. The women should decide what they want to do with their bodies. I'm all for that."
There isn't much room for any restrictions or limitations in that glowing endorsement of abortion by Schwarzenegger.

We as a society have already been there, and I don't think we want to revisit that.

Well done Anne, you have roscoe flopping like a fish.
-- Btw, - he will ~never~ admit that in his hoped-for communitarian society, individuals don't get to make choices.

I suppose it's all how one interepts it, Good point. Schwarzenegger's words safely can't be taken to mean what they say.

The Platform of the California Republican Party
The Sanctity of Life We note Thomas Jefferson's sentiment that "the care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction is the first and only legitimate object of good government," and that the United States Constitution guarantees no one "be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law." The CRP affirms its support for the protection of innocent human life at every stage, from the pre-born to the elderly, the infirm and the disabled.
As the Party for Life, we stand with the overwhelming majority of Americans who oppose taxpayer funding of abortion and abortion for sex selection. We oppose the heinous practice commonly known as partial-birth abortion and urge the State Legislature, the Congress and President to pass legislation to ban this procedure. To restore to the states the right to determine the abortion issue, we support the reversal of Roe V. Wade.

I believe it was you putting words into Arnolds mouth.
You know all this bashing of fellow Republicans, whether you agree with them or not, is only hurting our party.

If Cruz doesn't win the new post of Gov, he reverts back to his Lt Gov post. He DID NOT resign to run for Gov. He was elected (sigh) Lt Gov. Only if he resigns or is incapcitated does he have to leave that post if he loses the election.
Remeber when Jerry Brown was govenor? His Lieutenant Govenor was a Republican and whenever Brown left the state would claim he was acting govenor, would pass executive orders, sign bills if they were passed. It got to the point that Brown couldn't leave the state, much to the benefit of the other 49 states....

A little off topic here,, but let me amend your words a bit.. The current leadership of the CA GOP is hurting the party... by losing sight of its own purpose. imo
To: Roscoe
I understand what the platform is...however not everyone in the Party may agree with it. Platforms are ususally set by the more, shall we say, hardcore of the party. Are you actually inferring that if one does not agree with every point of the platform somehow they are not "good Republicans"?
Why are you quoting platform to me when this is about a quote that you are assuming means something that the person might not have intended? That is very dishonest.

Yes, Norm. I understand how you feel, but I don't think bashing candidates is the right thing to do.

I understand what the platform is...however not everyone in the Party may agree with it. Clearly so, given Schwarzenegger's enthusiastic support for abortion.

bashing, bashing.. ? This is tickling, wait until the last few days ;-)

I will say one final thing on this the abortion subject.
If it is really your intent to decrease the number of abortions in this country, you will not do it by laws. As President Bush has said, "We need to change the heart". As Republicans are so quick to point out, gun restictions do not keep people from having "illegal weapons", nor does it decrease the number of shooting. Laws are not always the answer.

You saw the movie The Patriot, didn't you? Well, I don't intend to lose my head in the end, but I won't back off from the purpose of this forum either. I hope you know what I mean by that. :-)
You either live free or you are a slave.
How many of us feel free today.. Look at your paycheck stubs and ask yourselves, "Are you being served .. or enslaved?"
To: NormsRevenge
Yes, I agree. But I don't know what you are really alluding to. Both candidates have stated that they want to cut taxes, do away with the car tax.. I can vote for either one of these guys, depending on who I think can win it against Bustamante. If this election is about the financial mess we are in, and I think it is, then either of these guys can do the job. Both have their good points and their bad.

If it is really your intent to decrease the number of abortions in this country, you will not do it by laws. Some laws are being enacted to encourage abortion.
Protection from parental notification. Medicare subsidization. RICO laws against those who might persuade a mother to go full term. Laws to protect abortionists from showing the mother the ultrasound. etc.
The Governor WILL be able to influence most of these.

Arnie has not ruled out raising taxes... I know I know.. he added that "emergency" clause to his statement,, but quite frankly, all candidates would do what had to be done.
