If Cruz doesn't win the new post of Gov, he reverts back to his Lt Gov post.

That's my understanding, as well. And it's going to present a problem for Schwarzenegger or McClintock, if either of them win, because as I understand it, in California, the Lt. Gov. becomes Acting Governor whenever the Governor is out of state. Which means that Governor Schwarzenegger or Governor McClintock would have to be very careful about taking out-of-state trips, especially when the legislature is in session, lest the Democrat-controlled legislature rush through some bill in his absence, and get it signed by Acting Governor Bustamante.

I think he was just being honest and realistic, and I believe what he said. If there is an emergency of some sort, perhaps the taxes might have to be increased. I think it is disingenuous to say "Read my lips, no new taxes"; you know what happened last time. *sigh*

I saw that thread. Too bad Im working the NASCAR thread right now ( and hopping all over too) , I'd be there.

I am waiting for President Bush and the DOJ to weigh in as this is a national security risk.

Why should a hardcore conservative like Tom MadClintock even consider positions than those he assuredly deserves? As others have pointed out, when MadClintock is revived yet again after the recall election, he is a natural for the presidency of the U.S.

National media is covering him now and the same fevered supporters should delight in watching him excoriate RINO G.W. Bush over the excess spending and atrocious bloating of the federal government. MadClintock can slam Bush for not having the backbone in supporting judges like Miguel Estrada. He can even take a playbook out of the left by shaming Bush on the rising death toll of the military, perhaps with campaign commercials depicting pictures of the fallen soldiers...with the tagline "how much longer can we stand the stinking Bush?"

Just think of how the media would make MadClintock a superstar and repeat his criticisms of RINO Bush to the delight of true, principled conservatives everywhere. Since MadClintock's conservative purity is the highest virtue, a failure in his quest for the nomination would not be considered a loss since he got the publicity and fame he so much deserves. It would be no crime to politically weaken the RINO Bush because he has demonstrated to the MadClintockites that he is no better than a real, liberal Democrat.

MadClintock may look like a flat tire to you and it never pays to argue with the anointed, but in a post statewide election, he usually resembles a groundhog flattened by the electorate, which may not make an appreciable difference to your extraordinary senses.

This is one of the silliest threads I've seen in a while. Bustamante does NOT have to vacate his office if the recall is Yes and he loses the election. The point is moot and debating it amounts to little more than debating pure fantasy.

Sorry, but I think it's a little irritating discussing this as it shows a lack of some basic knowledge by supposedly informed people on something that's not going to happen.

You misconstrued my comment which isn't unusual considering some of the other remarks you have made about Tom.

Keep up the attacks. They are part of a public record.

"lack of some basic knowledge by supposedly informed people"..."Even 6th grade social studies student should know that in California, the Lt. Governor's post is an independently elected position."

In case you didn't know, there are 49 other states, and thus most FReepers aren't from California nor familiar with Golden State laws. Residing on the other side of our nation, I have personally found this thread to be quite informative and, with over 90 comments, so, apparently, have other FReepers.

I thought that the hate-love history that you and Roscoe have was confined to single threads and that your arguments did not cross over to unrelated threads (like this one).

In fact, I was a bit surprised to see you initiate an attack on Roscoe on an unrelated subject. Its the first I'd seen it. I do not recall Roscoe ever going to an unrelated thread to attack you - although that may be because you spend all your time on doper threads - and doper threads are always a Libertarian thread.

I was surpised because I though Libertarians do not initiate attacks. You were not threatened by Roscoe yet you attacked.

I, on the other hand, am not Libertarian. I believe there are legitamite times to initiate force. These include providing support (whether Roscoe needs/wants it or not) to someone who consistantly shows good judgement with facts to back it up. Roscoe is a hypocracy hunter. I just let him know that he bagged another one.

But since we're on a McClintock thread, I'm curious where our Libertarian friends stand. Do they support Arnold the hedonist, McClintock the Constitutionalist, do they have any organized support for anyone, or have they simply missed their big chance in a major election that doesn't require a majority to win?

I made a comment about roscoes attack on Lisa Anne... So sue me.

Your defense of Roscoe's hypocricy is touching. -- You guys related?

All of the above, I'm sure.
