Bush Will Seek $87 Billion for Iraq

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will announce on Sunday night that he plans to ask Congress for $87 billion to fund the U.S. military deployment in Iraq and pay for reconstruction, a Republican source said.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the money would fund U.S. military operations in Iraq and reconstruction over the coming budget year.

The figure includes assistance for Afghanistan. Bush was to make the request in an 8:30 p.m. EDT address to the nation, the source said.

The figure was at the high end of expectations. Some members of Congress said earlier they expected Bush to get what he asked for but wanted him to detail how long U.S. troops would remain in Iraq and outline a strategy for bringing them home. (snip)

Ok, I am eating crow, but my point stands that we have gotten a lot of false info into the media to try to hurt Bush and his policies. I blame the 9 or 10 dwarfs and Snow White thighs and their attempt to regain power at all cost. Which will be more costly than anything we will spend in Iraq.

Another $87 billion + $66 billion = economic implosion. Keynesian enconomics or not this budget fallacy is about to show it's teeth. ...and the walls came tumbling down.

$87 billion is over $300 for every man woman and child in the country. I wonder when parents should break the news to their young children that they are going to work an extra few years to pay for this.

Money well spent. Of course we can just adopt the policy of the past two decades, nest and absorb whatever else the jihadists have in mind for us and then pay the bills at their leisure.

Hey, I'd be more than happy to retract my statements. It would actually give me a little hope. However I'm afraid I'm not going to have to. Do you honestly believe that there are 20,000 liters each of several WMDs along with 30,000 warheads to deliver them that they somehow have overlooked?

:-}

It's possible they overlooked 20 fighter jets buried in the desert.

But that's neither here nor there. It's not the quantity of finished product I'm interested in. It's what they were capable of and planning on do with it.

Anybody who doesn't believe that Saddam didn't have CB weapons and the will to use them is living in fantasy land.

want every man, woman and child dead in this country like these terrorists want

That is a separate issue, which is - was there any connection at all between Sept 11 and Iraq. Most analysts say no. If there was, then the whole story we have been told - about Afghanistan and the Taliban - is off.

Carefully, very carefully, reread what you posted. Now envision one of your loved ones taking the hit.

You don't see the whole picture,, Is the President a liar?,, are there no terrorists fighting us in Iraq?,, if we leave do you not think that Iraq will be a terrorist haven for many different terrorists groups who anyone of them would be glad to "jihad" themselves with any weapon they could find against our people and cities here?,, let's cut their asses over there,, we are killing them by the hundreds all over Iraq and Afghanistan with our military,, isn't that a beautiful thing?,, If we can gather them in one place in mass they make better targets,,, killem all,,,

87 billion or a trillion who cares,, the very survial of our country is at stake

I think Ted Kennedy used that same line when talking about universal health care.

If you think this effort in Iraq is so worth the money being spent then why don’t you have the courage to suggest that American taxes should be raised to pay for it?
