I'm actually not surprised. The Amish church tells them they don't have to obey Amish rules when they're teenagers, but the kids grow up only knowing Amish and family-imposed rules. They do not feel restrictions on their behavior that occurs outside of the church. So anything goes.
Sometimes ex-Amish are also not well-adjusted to the outside world.
