Obviously from the standpoint of the US government, differences between Icelanders and Iranians are trivial compared to differences between Filipinos and Malaysians.

My guess would be that academic performance by Filipino students is more like that of Hispanics than of Chinese-Americans, Japanese-Americans, or Vietnamese-Americans, so they are seen to deserve racial preferences.

Maybe they should just lump the Filipinos in with the other Hispanics --- really they are from a former Spanish colony and many are Spanish surnamed. Being from a Spanish colony is really what links "hispanics".

Maybe Filipinas are classified separately from other Asians because many are conservative, Catholic Christians, and liberals would definitely not want to give preferential treatment to people like THAT.

Yes, it is a nice state, thanks. It's also a big state. I live nowhere near Los Angeles or any other large city. We don't have that kind of shooting where I am, either.

I'd like to give a little bump to the Armenian gangs.

Glendale (nearby city) is close by and has a large Armenina population as does parts of the San Fernando Valley. The Armenian gangs (Armenian Power - AP) and Hispanic gangs mix it up at the nearby high school (can't remember the name, next to LAVC and about 3 miles from Taft).

Armenian isn't mentioned in the Taft racial stats, so they probably fall under white, but the Armenians definitly would like their own catagory.

Relevant to this discussion because there was a Valley shooting 6 months or so ago and the perps car was described as having a large Armenian flag laying across its hood.
