Boy Severely Bitten by Dog
A 13-year-old boy was severely bitten by a pit bull as he walked to his school bus stop.
Ronald Roswell, of 3151Ú2 Brimm Road, was walking with friends to the corner of Tarpon Road and Recker Highway when the pit bull attacked him Wednesday morning, said Donna Seiler, a rabies technician with the Polk County Animal Services Division.
A motorist saw the attack and hit the dog with a broom, Seiler said. After struggling for a few minutes, the motorist was able to free the boy. The boy received a deep wound to his calf.
A Polk County deputy shot the dog after the dog lunged at the deputy, Seiler said.
The dog had bitten someone before, and Animal Services recommended the boy receive a rabies shot, Seiler said.
The dog's owner is Arthur Swainston of 402 Recker Highway.
Seiler did not expect any charges to be filed.

FWIW, there is a spot on all canines just behind the muscle mass on the lower shoulder. You stick your thumb in that joint while holding the leg and the canine will shriek in pain and will release any grip they have. Other forms of agression like hitting them with brooms, bats, sticks, etc....actually makes them grip tighter.

What a surprise.

Sure hope no one messes with his place, now that we all know where it is.
Seiler did not expect any charges to be filed.

Pitbulls need to be outlawed. I am sick and tired of hearing about children getting mutilated and killed because of these animals. You never hear about a labrador killing anyone.

Anybody who has ever owned a pit bull know there not a dog of peace, I would never say that. But I will say R-79 that it is the dog owners fault, if my dog bit someone for no reason he would either be dead by my own hand or locked up where he couldn't get out period. I hate it for the kid and as a parent I have to admit that not only would I like to kill the dog but probably the dogs owner as well. It truly is a shame that idiot dog owners let there pets run loose especially when they've proven that they would bite unprovoked.

So what type of dogs do non-white trash people have, I don't consider myself white trash and I own 3 pit bull dogs. By the way, name one species of dog that won't bite for sure. There aren't any.

Oh such language from a non white trash punk. Just for the record I live on a 150 acre ranch in a 3500 square ft. stick built home and make a 6 figure income Jack. Your blanket statement of pit bull owners shows your ignorance, disrespect and in my opinion white trashing talk.
To: IcelandicConservative
Oh by the way, I do however dig Metallica, I guess that does indeed make me white trash.
To: diamond6
"You never hear about a labrador killing anyone."No, but one attacked me resulting in emergency surgery and four days in the hospital. It had bitten before and attacked another person several weeks after it attacked me. Stupidity on the part of owners is a large factor.

Pitbulls should be classified as wild animals, like lions and tigers. Kept caged up in zoos, but not as pets. Certainly the law should be changed to make pitbull owners strictly liable for any damage wrought by the beasts.

A few points:
- Pit Bulls are terriers. Terriers, without proper training, can be prone to biting. It's their nature as agressive protectors of the home.
- Terriers are both courageous and loyal. A well-trained terrier, along with a loaded shotgun, are among the best home defense items.
- Making blanket statements about groups and engaging in ad-hominem attacks are 'white trash' methods of debate.
- Metallica rocks.
That is all.

Here's the deal. Goldens, Labs, Newfoundlands, Beagles, and countless other "seemingly" friendly breeds maul just as many people as Pit Bulls do, but the darn media never reports it! It's a conspiracy, I tell you. The demonization of by far the most peaceful and loving breed on earth - the Pit Bull - continues unabated. Disgusting.

"Other forms of agression like hitting them with brooms, bats, sticks, etc....actually makes them grip tighter."
Actually, a baseball bat swung hard and striking the pit bull at the base of the skull, where the spine enters the skull, will end the attack quite successfully. Sticks are useless.
If you have a firearm, you must be very careful not to further injure the person being attacked. Approach closely, and direct your shot _across_ the dog, at the opening of the ear. If that's not feasible, a heart shot is the next best thing, but most people cannot locate the heart of a dog.
If you have a shotgun, stand back six feet, and carefully direct your fire at the center of the chest, behind the dog's shoulder, again being careful not to injure the person. A cross-body shot is ideal. The reason to back off a bit is to create a bigger hole through the chest area, adding insurance to your shot.
Still, if the attack is ongoing, the base of the skull blow with a heavy club is the best approach.

I hope your dogs are always under your control and kept from roaming. I also hope that you have a high fence to keep them from escaping. If you live in my neighborhood, your dogs had better not be roaming at all. I will not tolerate loose pit bulls. Period. So, please be careful with your dogs.

It's a no-brainer. On any given day, you can do a search for "Pit Bull" on Google News and find a story to post here of some pit bull attacking someone somewhere. You won't have the same success if you enter the name of any other dog breed.
Check it out. Actually, I like the idea of a daily "Pit Bull Attack of the Day" posting on FR. Maybe after a couple of months of that, the "pit bulls are just the nicest dogs" crap will come to an end.

I volunteered to keep a tiny, little pitbull puppy for a co-worker for a week while she moved, even though I have a prejudice against the breed and am suspect of their owners. I figured it's just a puppy, not really a pitbull yet. My first clue that something was wrong was when my 110 pound mixed retriever relinquished his food to the puppy. Just turned around and walked away. Then I had the ugly little puppy out back playing and the thing attacked me. Not the typical puppy play, a vicious attack. The little monster spent the rest of the week contained. I hate pitbulls.

In training my livestock dogs(I sell them too), in working cattle and rams the aussie cattle dogs tend to get a little too tenascious. I've never seen so much spirit in such a small package. At first they will grip a tail and will not let go. Funny to see a steer running around the pasture kicking a dog in tow. The harder the steer kicks and runs, the longer the dog holds on. One time my daughter who has very long hair had it back into the usual farm braid for safety reasons. It was swaying like a tail as she walked down the driveway. Our favorite dog(Rose) came running at that tail, tried to herd my daughter to the house and my daughter resisted her ankle nips. So Rose lept into the air and clamped onto my daughters braid for all she was worth.
Funniest damn thing I ever saw. Sweet dog.
At this point, Rose can clear an entire pasture of sheep to the next or back into the barn in seconds. Smart, fast, loving, and loyal. I still love my Border Collies but they like to work slow and methodical. Aussies like to work like shouting "fire" in a crowded theater.

It could be that they bite a lot, or EVERY bite is reported.

Certainly the law should be changed to make pitbull owners strictly liable for any damage wrought by the beasts. Why single one breed out? Every dog owner should be strictly liable for any damage wrought by his/her pet. It's called personal responsibility -- it surprises me that so many people here seem to want to blame the dog rather than the owner.
