Satanic Schwarzeneggerians

"I have gone back and forth on Schwarzenegger, so much that I almost have whiplash. But my new – my current – position on him is: To hell with him."

– Jay Nordlinger, National Review

I like Arnold, the bodybuilding evangelist and the movie star. But I have no regard for Mr. Schwarzenegger-Kennedy, the evasive politician. He's a man of the people now – give him a little more time and he'll be feeling our pain and doing everything "for the children." Fortunately, it didn't take long for Arnold to destroy himself as a viable candidate in the eyes of thinking conservatives everywhere. He was already suspect, indeed, anathema to those of us who believe in principles over party.

But he damned himself even with the pragmatists, those who care more for power, party and position than principle, with his dismissal as "right-wing crazies" those who support Proposition 54, which bans the state's collection of racial statistics on the population. How eminently fitting that a son of a National Socialist would fail to see the dangers in compiling such data! After all, without it, how can the state be expected to find those pesky Jews and Japanese in case it serves the interests of the children to round them up again?

The Republican enthusiasm for Arnold was initially based on his star power. It was nice, for a change, to see a Hollywood entity throw in with the GOP for once instead of barking mindlessly at it with the usual combination of vacuous accusations and cretinous insults. But his real support stemmed from his presumed electability, which sufficed to prevent numerous Democratic grandees from throwing their hats into the ring.

The problem is that the concept of electability is a massive crock of fumet. The Bush administration is demonstrating this truth in real-time, as its compassionate big-government neo-conservatism expands the federal leviathan at a pace faster than anyone since FDR. Would President Gore have been worse? Perhaps – but then there would be an opportunity to elect a man who actually opposed the rising tide of government in 2004 instead of surfing it like a cattle rancher gone beach-boy stoner.

Schwarzenegger, far from representing the salvation of California's Republican Party, stands for its complete immolation. He does not offer a philosophical alternative to California's self-destructive Democratic socialism; instead, he is a form of life-support for it. Instead of swearing to cut spending, he vows to beg more money from the federal government – demonstrating very clearly that this Republican is no republican!

Republicans in the state legislature have held their ground against the rapacious taxes proposed by Gov. Davis, and their obdurate political Manichaenism will allow them to do the same against Bustamante. But they will not be able to resist the same tax increases which would be proposed by a future Gov. Schwarzenegger. Furthermore, California Republicans will then be tarred by the same fiscal irresponsibility that now sticks only to their Democratic rivals, which, combined with their contemplated Schwarzeneggerian abandonment of cultural conservatives, will leave them wholly without a raison d'etre.

Pragmatism in politics is self-defeating in the long run. It is a euphemism for the slow sacrifice of one's principles. The constant substitution of "electable" moderates for principled conservatives is what repeatedly kills the Republican Party and prevents it from ever realizing even a small part of its platform when it is in power. It is particularly ironic when the electable moderates show themselves to be nothing of the sort, which in this particular case has already happened when the managing editor of the seminal National Review abjures the Great Teutonic Hope in no uncertain terms.

And those so-called Republicans who would drive a principled conservative like Tom McClintock from the race should hang their heads in shame. If they cannot fight for this candidate, they may as well abandon the battle altogether, for they are useless soldiers. It is better to spend 40 years in the political wilderness than to forsake one's soul for all the kingdoms of the world, much less four years in Sacramento.

Still worse, however, are the right-side commentators who urge conservatives to abandon their principles and line up behind this false Republican god. To sacrifice your own soul to the naked pursuit of power is bad enough, to tempt others to do likewise is not just the ultimate in negative campaigning, it is pure political Satanism.

This is BillyBoy's excellent post on another thread. It kind of says it all about the consequences of giving up values to get anything electable as a "Republican"

To: Brian Allen

NOTICE TO ALL "principled-republican" and other DNC-inspired McJimJeffords SUPPORTERS

ROTFLMAO!!!

What PLANET are you Arinold supporters living on where McClintock votes sound ANYTHING like Perot supporters or Jeffords supporters? I guess you sat in a closet during those elections.

Let me refresh your memory. Here are ACTUAL QUOTES from Jeffords apologists on FR before he switched parties. See if you can read it-- very slowly-- and TRY to figure out what kind of people are arguing the SAME points in California today:

"Liberal states elect liberal Republicans and Vermont is our most liberal state. Is this some kind of news flash? Jeffords is so loved in his home state. GW's best chance is to bring over Democrats from states he carried by a wide margin. That's what he's doing. If you don't know why we bothered to win the White House, you're too dumb to post". Posted on 04/04/2001 12:47:34 PDT

"Jeffords is interested in being Gov. of VT. He'd get support of both Republicans and Democrats and would be hard to beat. But he'll probably remain Senator. Leahy would need to step down before Dean could run, and that's likely. But what about the Bernie factor? He'd give Dean a good run for his money, and VT could end up having an Independent Socialist Senator and a moderate Republican Senator." Posted on 02/14/2001 18:39:38 PST

"Jeffords may be a leading RINO, but he's the only one who can win on the Republican ticket. Thank goodness Sanders didn't run!" Posted on 05/25/2000 14:24:50 PDT

"As a Republican of some 35 years, I have personally never seen this party in such sad shape. We cannot be winners with the hateful right. The Liberals know this... Jeffords is just expressing the frustration of many Republicans with the Buchanan-right today." Posted on 02/10/2000 17:23:07 PST

"Perhaps Jeffords is a RINO (as his record, I think, indicates), but perhaps he is just doing what I think some "moderates" in the House did: covering his butt for his liberal constituency , but still intending to vote to convict." Posted on 01/18/99 06:43:54 PST

Jeffords "Republican" supporters voted for that socialist because he had an "R" next to his name and "could win" in a liberal state. Supposely his victory would "help Bush" too and his far-left stance on social issues "didn't matter". Think about this slowly and try to answer honestly for once. Now tell me. Who is esposing that viewpoint NOW??

It's nice that Mr McJeffords-Perot is a "conservative."

But we're engaged in an election campaign so it's better that ARNOLD IS A REPUBLICAN!

And it's wrenching to see "principled-conservativism's" useful idiots -- having already given US eight years of Peking's squalidly-white-house-squatting-and-bemanuring "man" in Washington -- now working so damned hard, at such a frenzied pace -- and with such mouth-flecked ardor -- as once again they all lemming-like line up in their mindless rush to fullfil Joe Stalin's prophesy for him.

To buy the rope.

And to condemn Californians to suffer under Mexico City's "man" in Sacremento, Herr KKKuz BustaMENCHA.

God save California from such men.

And God save My America.

You didn't see a lot of us...
consider that some folks MIGHT have been at the convention... this weekend and are a little tired.

and you will notice that by and large.. not as many people are responding to the "flame" effect postings... by certain posters.

Most of us have our minds made up... one way or the other. now that the convention is over, I would say that many are now concretized in their thinking. It's pretty much over.

It is commonly believed that McClintock will not be the leading republican charge on election eve. And even If he is, it won't be enough to win the governors chair. If Arnold is in the lead, many but not all McClintock supporters may have already abandoned him to political ruin... and the State MIGHT just get Arnold as it's new executive... and if not, we are stuck with Busty...

I expected Tom to pull out by Monday, since I knew that some of his political "kin" were going to try and persuade him this weekend. Apparently he wants to go down in a blaze of whatever... so be it. A lot of the "true believers" are going to be very very dissappointed. I was of course wrong in my expectations of the man. Perhaps he will drop out later...

The republican party in California will NEVER be as conservative as you, or even me, ever again in our lifetimes...
I knew that when I voted for Wilson the first time...

I was at the convention this weekend as well. The RINOs definitely took control of the convention. Gerald Parsky had to be laughing. He finally crushed the grass roots.

If you want to join the RINOs in riding the bomb down like Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove, then be my guest. But you can can't me out.

I know you did not write it....
but you were quoting it in post 2... as if you agreed with it.

I was not accusing you of writing it... I did see that you felt the need to post it... and particularly the section attributing satanism to Arnold supporters. Everybody has to blame somebody, and Satan is easier to blame than one's self.

It seems desperate on the author's part, and by virtue of your excerpt, your part as well... and I think I understand the feeling folks get when their candidate was not given the attention that they feel he deserved at the convention.

I think you will find that the more desperate the posts and flame baiting are from this point on, the less folks will take you or your candidate seriously. (and you have been around a LONG time, and know it.) There are going to be fewer and fewer responses, because the minds are pretty much made up.

This convention was pretty much a proxy "primary" and the folks looked over the candidates and made up their minds... I have my own opinion as to how the breakdown is... but we will just have to wait to see what specific state leaders say in interviews this week...

I don't think the arnold/mcclintock tussle is going to last much longer... we got bigger fish to fry coming up... on a few impending international issues...

It's not "crickets" or the idea that you have trounced the entire forum with your brilliance... it's just that lots of folks here, don't care to respond to the stuff any more...

Perhaps it will reignite tomorrow... but the "heat" is going out of the debating... having denigrated to name calling and insults... nothing new is being brought to the table for analysis... except a few flame baits now and then... it's probably over.

Personally, I hope Tom tells the RINO/Fifth Columnist/Amnesty Crowd to go shove it. That's exactly what they deserve.

There has been no debating. Arnold is an empty suit whose "positions" have been totally focus group driven. His supporters on here refuse to discuss issues. They simply refer to polling data. This is the way Clinton ran his presidency.

I am not surprised that the RINOs won out at the convention. Let's face it, the people there aren't serious. It is like a sporting event. They spend more time drinking themselves into drunken stupors at the hospitality suites than they do discussing anything serious, like the future of our state.

Pathetic.

I disagree, as you know, with your premise... as do other "rinos" like "robert".

But I can LIVE with any kind of "spinning" and I will do my best to LIVE even if taxes go up, amnesty is granted to illegals and spending for government "services" goes ever higher.

Like it, NO... Live anyhow... YES.

AND I think it will not be as you fear.
If Arnie wins, and does NOT work in support of a large, blanket amnesty, higher taxes and continued explosion of spending... would you consider your "glass" 10 percent full?

I guarantee you that whatever is in the glass, if arnie is elected, would be far more than will be in it if Busty is elected... And Tom, who will probably not win the governors chair, will most likely be useful EXACTLY where he is... on the Senate Floor, leveraging the financial details amongst his colleagues.

If arnie gets elected and vetoes a democraptic bill... I expect that we will at least be able to uphold the veto. Arnie will cut deals to get SOME of our stuff through... and after the election next year, we might even see a balance of power change in the California legislature.

why am I confident that the state will MOVE to the right, with Arnie... because for the last several years, it has gone as far left as is humanly possible... it HAS to swing back to center.

But this has been thrashed to death.
You vote your conscience, I will vote mine.
Folks are tired of this stuff. And frankly so am I.

The LA Times ran a story on Saturday reporting that Tom McClintock told Congressman Dan Burton that he wouldn't pull out, that he would be fine with a democrat win this time, as it will set him up to win in 2006.

I didn't believe it, as I am always unlikely to believe anything in the LA Times, but it looks like it's the McClintock supporters' talking point of the weekend.

How eminently fitting that a son of a National Socialist would fail to see the dangers in compiling such data! After all, without it, how can the state be expected to find those pesky Jews and Japanese in case it serves the interests of the children to round them up again?

Absolutely disgraceful comments. This guy is a piece of sh*t.
