If you have to ask that question, Taxman, you wouldn't understand the answer.

I'd be glad to give them my spare clock cycles, but they must pay me.

What about donating them for the good of manki.... Ah, nevermind.

What about donating them for the good of mankind?

Only if I could be assured that the first alien race we contacted completely exterminated our race.

Then, heck, I'd buy servers for SETI every week.

A little while back, we were over 100K but we dropped back below it for some reason.

I had wanted to join my (now 440) completed work units to the Freeper team some time back. But I could not.

When I joined SETI, somehow I was accepted without being told I had to have a password--which I don't need to check my progress on their site. However, I need a password to change my email address, which I had dropped long time ago when they started charging. And without a current email address, I can't add my previous units to any team. :(

Hmmmmm... Does that make sense?

There is another program out there that I believe is a lot more beneficial to us all. It's called United Devices.

Try me.

Maybe some other FReepers might become interested in helping out, if we knew what it was about.

The links on the page explain what SETI@home is all about and how you can join it. It doesn't cost anything.

You just donate a portion of your computer time for crunching data that has been recorded but not processed.

Actually, I was referring to the links at the top or bottom of the story. The actually Seti @ home link is here.

http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/

Sorry for the confusion. I should have remembered the new FR server recognizes html type addresses automatically.

Cool - 11 new members!

HINT: to greatly increase the amount of data units crunched/day, download the command line version of SETI@HOME here (for Windows users). It of course does not have all the trippy real-time 3D graphs, but that gets boring real quick, anyway.

I cut my time down by about 40% by using it. Nick Danger turned me on to it. However, it sits in the taskbar. To make it invisible, try SetiSpy.
