Over 200 people from close to 45 countries have been invited to Shimon Peres' official 80th birthday party next week. Uninvited "guests" will protest his responsibility for the Oslo process.
The Government Press Office released a copy of the official international guest list at Shimon Peres' 80th birthday celebration, scheduled for this Sunday evening in Tel Aviv. Over 200 people from close to 45 countries have been invited, including: * Italian architect Mr. Massimiliano Fuksas; * Director of Malta Airport Ms. Rosette Fenech; * Mr. Maulana Wahiduddin-Khan, President of The Islamic Center in India; * Mr. Heinz Fischer Second President of the National Council, Deputy Leader of the Social Democratic Party of Austria Austria; * 17 Englishmen including Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Rix Lord Justice of Appeal, Member of the Privy Council; * and 50 Americans, including Bill Clinton.
Jewish Leadership and Women in Green are planning to attend the birthday party, or at least stand outside, in protest of Peres' leadership of the Oslo process. "Since Peres has ruined the birthday parties of 8,000 people in the past three years, 800 of whom never reached their next birthday, it is only fitting that we ruin his," they say, noting in particular the fact that he is "unrepentant." This was clearly evidenced by his interview with Arutz-7's Kobi Finkler this week, when he defended Oslo as follows: "Ten years is a very short time, historically. We now have a Palestinian partner that recognizes Israel, we have a deep change in the Likud's ideology in that they now recognize the two-state solution... I see tremendous progress, despite the difficulties, which are natural... I have no regrets."

Text: Secret Rabin Letter to Peres - Call Off OsloThe following is IMRA's translation of the text of a letter written by Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin to FM Shimon Peres on 7 June 1993, 3 months before the announcement of the Oslo agreement, as published in Maariv on 12 September 2003 in an article by Noam Amit "Always Guilty":
7 June 1993
Top Secret
To: Foreign Minister Shimon Peres
Re: Oslo Contacts
Further to our conversation on this matter on Sunday, 6.6.93, I wish to repeat the main points of what I said. The contacts termed "Oslo contacts" under the current circumstances constitute a danger to the continuation of peace talks . . . [the dots in the original article]
First they give an opportunity to the Tunis people to bypass the talks in Washington and weaken the positive element of the Palestinian delegation - the residents of the territories. The Tunis people are the extremist element among Palestinians interested in the peace process and they prevent the more moderate elements from advancing the negotiations with us. This gained clear expression in the ninth (last) round of negotiations. Moreover, they prevent members of the Palestinian delegation from talking with the Diplomatic Section in Washington.
It can very well be that the Tunis people intend to foil any chance of reaching substantive negotiations in Washington and force us to talk only with them, and then the negotiations with the Syrians, Lebanese and Jordanians is expected to be endangered.. . [the dots in the original article]
I ask you to halt the contacts until this is clarified again.
+++
The article notes that this clarification process took a week and that Peres then succeeded in convincing Rabin to allow the talks to continue.

Clinton probably didn't want to take his wife to the party, and you can't put Monica on the official list.
How about Mr. Sergey Brin Co-Founder and President, Google USA and Mr. Larry Page Co-Founder, Google USA. I'm surprised Jimmy Carter isn't there.
