Unlike the ignorant limousine leftists of Hollywood, Cambridge, Manhattan, Georgetown and Western Europe, the heroes of Eastern Europe know what it's like to live under the horror of communism. That's why they're calling for the ouster of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
In a letter sent to leading newspapers internationally, three former presidents - Vaclav Havel of the Czech Republic, Lech Walesa of Poland and Arpad Goencz of Hungary - say European countries should fund opposition groups in Cuba, wire services reported today.
Castro's regime is "at its last gasp" and comparable to Eastern Europe in the late 1980s, the three leaders observe.
"The internal opposition is getting stronger, it has not been brought to its knees by the police round-up last March, times are changing, the revolution is getting old and the regime is getting nervous," they write.
"Fidel Castro knows well that one day the revolution will die with him."
They note that Europe's socialist-tainted governments are being too soft on Castro.
"Europe ought to make it unambiguously clear that Fidel Castro is a dictator, and that for democratic countries a dictatorship cannot become a partner until it commences a process of political liberalisation," the letter says.
However, they say the United States' trade embargo allows Castro to weasle out of blame for his economic disaster. It's time for America and Europe to act together against the dictator, they urge.

...say European countries should fund opposition groups in Cuba,...CAN'T BE DONE!
Fidel Castro would be solicited by the ACLU, as a client, and any funding of groups in Cuba that oppose Castro, would be declared unconstitutional by the 9th. US Circuit Court of Appeals.

These men are just anti-Communist because they lived under Communism!
Former U.S. President Jimmuh says Fidel's a good guy and Jimmuh's an American, not some East European weirdo!
To: headsonpikes
Can we send Jimmah to Cuba permanently?

These guys are real liberals in the truest and most positive sense of the word. They believe in doing good things and know that Communism has nothing in common with liberaiism, liberation, or any of our left's favorite buzzwords. Can we trade our nine Democrat President candidates (we will throw in Lieberman who is as close to a decent liberal as they have) for these men.

This is another "poke in the eye" at France's anti- US stance.(called anti-monpolar world, What crap!) I'm sure this is one of many issues the East Blockers (our allies) will throw to create disunity on the foreign policy front.

I look forward to seeing their letter in the NY Times. It'll be interesting to see what a letter-size document looks like reduced to the dimensions of a postage stamp.

Don't forget Sam Farr. He has broken beans with Castro many times. He works closely with Castro operatives in Santa Cruz county to bring Castro's style of sustainable development to America.

Vaclav Havel of the Czech Republic, has made this his personal cause.
To: Cincinatus' Wife
Good for him! He knows what it's like to live under communist totalitarianism.
