Collins is running for the US Senate GOP Primary in GA.

He is currently in the US House of Reps. He is ANTI-UN.

His main opponent, Johnny Isakson, is a moderate pro-choice, pro-UN opportunist.

All I know is that in 2001 he voted for Tom Daschle instead of Trent Lott for majority leader, enabling the RATs to organize the Senate and causing tremendous damage to our nation.

What else do I need to know?

I don't know a lot about how he feels about specific issues, but from what I've heard he's pretty conservative. If he were to run on the democratic ticket for president, I think he'd pose a real challenge to Bush. The main problem I'd see with his canidacy is that among democrats he's one of a kind. Who would he have to choose from as a running mate? The way the DNC is configured now he'd end up with someone like Wesley (sorry Wes) Clark as a VP. That would be best case scenario.

This is all speculation, there's no way in H#LL that Terry McCauliff & the Clintons would allow him anywhere NEAR the democratic nomination.

Conservatives that buy into Zell are just as big a prostitutes as the welfare loving Dems. They just go for a cheaper price. Upper middle class conservatives are attracted to him because he put through a system in Georgia to trick poor blacks into providing $4000 per year for college tuition for their kids. Now our universities are overcrowded,we have grade inflation in both high schools and colleges and it is costing me more tax money to build new infrastucture to accomadate the overflow."We know what you are now we are just haggling over your price"

Zell would make a good candidate but he could never get nominated in the Democratic Party of 2003. Maybe if there is a major schism and he gets some sort of third party nomination.

Yeah, but outside of Jim Trafficant, what Congressman ever breaks ranks with their party, no matter how much a DINO or RINO they are???

Sorry, didn't complete that thought. Should have been what Congressman, whether DINO or RINO breaks ranks in a leadership vote?

He won't challenge Bush, in fact Zell just endorsed him and has said he will campaign for him. http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/003/309nqnas.asp

If I remember correctly, your goal here (on the Free Republic) is to fix the Democrat party - to return it to the people rather than elitists and special interests (IMO, an unobtainable goal, but I still admire your effort).

If I remember that correctly, then I can see why you are interested in finding a candidate for the democrats. The current crop of 9 will not meet that goal.

Sam Nunn and Zell Miller are the best choices for that goal. Both are rather old, but so was Reagan. However, special interests within the democrat party would stenuously object to the nomination of either of these men. Most conservatives would not vote for either one, however if they somehow got elected, either one would be the least objectionable democrat to hold the office since Truman.
