There was a documentary on TV a couple of weeks ago about upscale trailer parks. They covered a trailer park in Malibu and another in Palm Springs. I could not believe the interiors of the customized homes that they showed. Quite spectacular on the inside, and not so obvious on the outside. You couldn't touch one in either location for under $500k. One advantage, at least in Malibu, was that they were exempt from property taxes.

You usually do not see kids at all in an auto junk yardIt was a bit of humor directed at the original post.
You know, a joke? You have jokes in LA don't you?

Hey, I feel ya on the changed economic circumstances. My hubby is self employed and has been out of work for 3 months. See, the problem here is that the illegals are undercutting prices for his type of work ( he is a brick mason ) and the contractors don't care if these folks are legit or not. They only care about getting the lowest price for the job. They are starving their neighbors while giving the work to the illegals. So, while Juan and Jose are driving new work trucks while getting Medicaid for their kids, we are pinching every penny of what was GOING to be our retirement to pay the mortgage, feed our kids, and keep gas in the vehicle.

TWO of my credit cards look like the American flag. I hate to think that there are some people who will look at my method of paying for my groceries and assume something because of that. It really ain't none of their business.

Not to mention 600 dollars a month for health insurance, if you have it at all.
You know, George W. Bush should kick these people out.

I hope your hubby finds work soon. It's a tough deal to live hand to mouth.
FYI, IMO Juan and Jose are driving new trucks for which they paid cash (relatives kicked in). I ssold cars for a long time and Hispanics and Asians tend to pool their money and not take out time payments.

Yes, but the cashier always asks what kind of card it is before you swipe it. So the people waiting on line get to know what kind of card you're using.

I was traveling outside of San Salvador, El Salvador, once...I saw people with kids living in a garbage dump. It was the saddest, most pathetic site I have ever seen. They were living in makeshift shacks of wood, cardboard, leaves and sticks. The kids were picking through garbage for food. Communist/socialist are evil scum that should be wiped off the face of the earth IMHO.

...being poor and trashy in America.Since you put the words together, I feel that it won't hurt to point out that "poor" and "trashy" are not necessarily correlated. I have known some people who were really poor, and were also of very good character. Definitely not trashy. Conversely, there are some very well-off people who are trashy. Why, right offhand, I can think of one person who has received an advance of $8,000,000 for a book she "wrote", and is still one of the trashiest around.

Yes!! My husband and I decided to "uncover" ourselves for a while and just keep the kids covered. With BCBS it is STILL running close to 400.00 a month for 4 kids. If something don't happen soon..................we will be broke. As it stands, we will have to start all over again on retirement and savings.

Uhm...the EBT cards have a distinct design to them. Much like having a VISA or MasterCard logo.

I walk out of the grocery store and see the woman getting into a brand new car...the same woman who was in front of me in the grocery line, with gold teeth, a cell phone -- and using food stamps or the EBT card. what a snoop you are...you check out the womans teeth... scope out how she pays, check for any cell phones then follow her out to the parking lot to see what she gets into. Goodness gracious and now your here insinuating shes a fraud.
For all you know she is a home health worker who just bought the groceries for some housebound elderly person she takes care of. I guess a good thought never crossed your mind. I think thats more telling of your nature.
