TY. I hope something pans out for him soon as well. It is scary right now. That "as long as we have each other" stuff only does so much to comfort you after 3 months, lol. My 16 yo son told me yesterday that if things got too bad he would quit cross country and get a job. This is his senior year and he is looking at a scholarship so I told him NO! He is so sensitive to our situation and is really sacrificing a lot ( compared to what he is used to ) without complaining. I sure love that boy!

You could be right about the car thing.

My thought is that people who you believe to be poor, are often a lot more wealthy than you.... A beat up car that cost 50 bucks a month for insurance, is worth a lot more to an owner than a 30 thousand dollar Mercedes with 4 1/2 years left of payments. A trailer by the beach, is worth a lot more than a 5 bedroom house in the desert.... capiche???

I'm not nosy enough to get close enough to look to see if someone is using a debit or EBT card.

You can tell what kind of card someone uses from 10 feet away. How much distance do you put between yourself and the person in front of you at the grocery checkout? You afraid of cooties?

My SIL buys her client's groceries and I believe her client receives public assistance. I am gonna call her up and ask her about it, lol.

"I feel that it won't hurt to point out that "poor" and "trashy" are not necessarily correlated."

Thank you! My family moved to California to pick fruit in the '30's. They were very poor but never trashy.

I sympathize. The cost of health care is staggering. I pay $500+ a month to cover my family and it is the thing that keeps us from getting ahead. Sure am tempted to go without it, but the consequences could leave us homeless if anything out of the ordinary happened. Of course, I could always get another job... Come to mention it, the risk might be worth it.

I never pay attention to how someone pays unless they take forever writing a check.

Yes, at 10 feet away I can distinguish between the two.

I know several trashy people with money, I know several rich people who are poor... you have to free yourself from material possession, one of the most common forms of slavery is material slavery... How can you be much poorer than a slave???? Even in prison you can get a doctorate, can you do that with all the debt and worry you currently have today???? Christianity isn't solely Puritan.

There is a trailer park near my house that is right across Pacific Coast Highway from the beach.

Ummmm....Treasure Island, Laguna Beach?

I live in Dana Point, so you and I both know you need lots of $ to live in some of the trailers out here...

How about that little stretch between Beach Road and San Clemente? Untouchable by my wages!

Good on your son and YOU for discouraging him from his kind thought. I hope he gets his scholarship and makes you even more proud.

Maybe if I bothered to look. But I'm not particularly interested in how other people pay for their stuff. I don't what an EBT card even looks like.

I never have cash on me anymore.

That's what the government supremacists want the sheeple to do. Preparation for the cashless, total control economy.

Elvis and Roseanne prove your point. I haven't been to Graceland, but I hear that even Mexicans think it's tacky.

what a snoop you are...you check out the womans teeth... scope out how she pays, check for any cell phones then follow her out to the parking lot to see what she gets into.

Now you're daring to attack me without knowing a damned thing about me? The whole scenario was, since you're so judgemental, a woman standing in line, talking on her cell phone with her "sistah". Since she is talking (talking requires opening your mouth, you know) and twitching her head left and right then the cashier says "ma'am, I need you to hit the EBT button, please", then she goes out to the parking lot. I pay for my 5 items with cash and also proceed out to the parking lot. See, I don't like to hang out at grocery stores after paying. It just seems natural to want to put your milk in the refrig after buying it so I go to my car. She's out in the parking lot, loading her groceries into her car. Not all humans walk at the same pace either, so me being 6'2" and a fast walker, I easily pace up with someone 5'3" and a slow walker while yakking on the cell phone and pushing a grocery cart. So this kinda provides me with all the evidence that I need.
