54: No on 54 Union Thugs Assault Pro-54 Females at Davis/Gore Rally, Los Angeles
Yes on Proposition 54 ^ | 09-19-03 | Justin Jones

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UNION THUGS SAVAGELY ATTACK COLLEGE KIDS AT A GRAY DAVIS SPEECH FOR SUPPORTING PROP 54, PROP 54 CAMPAIGN CHAIR WARD CONNERLY DECLARES IT AN ‘OUTRAGE’

SACRAMENTO, CALIF.--Ward Connerly, chairman of the Yes on Proposition 54 campaign, angrily denounced the savage attack several men from an unidentified union and carrying “No on Prop 54” signs unleashed on six college students.

The students, all members of the California College Republicans and in their early 20s, were peacefully protesting at a voter-registration rally held in south Los Angeles and featuring Governor Gray Davis and former Vice President Al Gore. The students stood respectfully outside and carried “Yes on Prop 54” signs.

They were approached by a gang of men, all wearing union shirts and carrying “No on Prop 54” signs, who began verbally harassing them and physically intimidating them by holding their signs over those of the students, standing threateningly close and following them when the students tried to retreat to a safe distance. They also shouted down the students with racial slurs and called one of the female students a “white-washed Mexican.”

Then about 15 of the “No on 54” thugs surrounded two girls, hit them in the face and pulled their hair. Another student who tried to rescue the girls got punched in the back. Finally, all of the students managed to escape to their car and drive away, all the while being followed and yelled at by their bullying attackers. Representatives of the media, including the Los Angeles Times, NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN were present, but it’s unclear how much of the attack they witnessed.

“I cannot express enough my disgust and contempt for brutes who express their political beliefs by beating up on anyone, especially young females,” said Mr. Connerly. “My sympathies go out to the students who had to endure this outrage. They are extremely courageous people who stand up and declare their beliefs, even at risk of bodily harm. I’m proud they stand among the supporters of Prop 54.”

Prop 54 will bar the state and all local California governments from classifying individuals by race in the areas of public education, employment, contracting and most other government operations. Reasonable exemptions exist for medical research subjects and patients, racial classifications required by federal law or for federal funds and certain activities of law enforcement. The state legislature, by a two-thirds vote and with the governor’s approval, can vote to exempt any other reasonable area. Also, the Department of Fair Housing and Employment will receive a 10-year sun-setting exemption.

Members of the media wishing for more information on the attack or who want to get in touch with any of the students can do so by contacting the Yes on Prop 54 office. For more information on Prop 54, please go to www.racialprivacy.org.

Never underestimate the power of intimidation. And the union thugs usually get away with it, even with cameras rolling. Just ask Don and Teri Adams.

I agree. I learned a number of years back -- you call the police. The police go investigate. The creep says it never "happened".. -- the assaulted party has to locate funds to hire an attorney, whereas the goon gets to use union "pals" for his defense. Even with the cameras rolling.

I wouldn't be surprised if Boeing wanted to move out of CA, too. There are penalties, however. Especially for a company like boeing. Right now, somewhere near LA? A company that had fled the state -- has to come back and pay billions of dollars in "environmental damage". Did the firm do the damage. Nope. Nonetheless "the guilty" must pay. It's quite a racket going on here in CA.

Bringing weapons or doing anything illegal will only bias the cops against you. The proper way to handle a situation like that is to get it on videotape, and hold your hands in front of you, palms out, with the underside of your forearm facing the attacker. Cringe and let them hit you. Do not resist. It will be clear to witnesses what happened, and you will have medical evidence that you were not the aggressor (wounds on the underside of the forearm are consistent with someone cringing in a defensive position, not attacking). Obviously, this advice only applies if you think your life is in no danger.

Having been through a few of these tussles, I do understand what you are saying; and I do understand the point. However, it is usually instinct that kicks in -- to protect one's body from assault. One of the nastier tricks I've seen goon squads do, especially when hands are busy with picket/poster signs -- knees to the groins of males. So, wear a sports cup. I also think a friendly videographer should be wearing a t-shirt in line with those who "might" be doing the assaulting. Why? I've seen friendly videographer knocked down first, before the assaults begin. In the rush of adrenalin, assaultors will note "friendly" t-shirt message, as a rule -- and therefore, photos, videos can at least stand a better chance of being actually useful. Allied friendly women protestors should feel absolutely no compunctions to landing a swift knee to the groin of an assaultor.

You are right about going in armed for self-defense; about how it might look on anyone's photo/video shoot. But I do not think it useful or productive to simply encourage people to go in unaware that they might be used as someone's political punching bag. And to simply "take it". If it is merely an imitidation act going on, then your counsel here is absolutely valid and the right way. However...

The truth of the matter is -- assaultors generally do not go for the "star attraction" -- they tend to pick off those around the "star attraction". It's a public display of "intimidation" and implied threat of what they'll do to anyone who supports this known "celebrity/activist".

--if the attackers are threatening your life, you should not hesitate to do whatever you can to stop them.

And some of the advice given above in this thread is very useful for exactly this reason. Anyone besides me remember "Mad Money" in the purse or sachel?

and to think calif use to be a "right to work" state now it's an "at will" and public employees union state.

I do know what you mean. However, the trick is in the phrase "right to work". That's socialist lingo. There is NO such thing as a right to work in our Constitution, is there? Right to work became the Union Haymill. Not a right. But rather, one cannot work WITHout the mark of the Union plastered on their forehead....

Freekitty? I've been thinking about how to answer your post. And I think I've got an answer, now. A pal sent me a story at a link: http://www.larknews.com/september15_2003/secondary_deaf.php?page=1

Harvard forcing homeschoolers to 'Fit In'.

It's about segregating homeschoolers cuz they can't fit in! Anyway the site is a spoof. I don't like the site at all. Why? Articles like these, POISON THE WELL. What do I mean by this phrase?

Poisoning the Well: tainting a story so that when it comes out, nobody believes it, pays attention to it, or considers it "old news" not worthy of paying attention to. Pretty effective technique; used a lot now a days. Clintons perfected the art 'Let''s Just Move On" -- after their calculated leaks.

After spoofs like this go-on-line; stories that really do happen like the persecuted homeschooling family in Massachusetts, or families elsewhere? Folks hearing it will think it's all a big spoof too.

Again, it was the Clinton's who perfected this political artform, and brought it into everyday use. So yes, I blame the Clinton's too.

As we near the Presidential election, I expect to see a great many more "poison the well" stories by liberals. So that when real awful things are done to others, or happen; everyone ignores or plays it down.

hmmm... I've been trying to get my hands on a particular flashlight a pal showed me a couple years back. Tiny little thing. He told me to turn it on and look "real quick" into the light.

I did.

Blinding, and immediate crashing headache that lasted quite a while. He laughed. I wanted revenge.

Ah, it's good to see the news media is still on the ball as always.

ABC: Gee, I didnt see anything. Did you see anything?
NBC: See what?
CBS: What was I supposed to see? Did I miss anything?
LA Times: I have no clue. Did something happen?
CNN: Got me, pal. My camera malfunctioned and I was in the truck trying to fix it.
ABC: You know something? My camera failed to work too.
NBC: That's a coincidence. So did mine.
CBS" Hey! Mine too! Darn camera wouldn't work! What's up with that?
LA Times: What's up with what? I didn't see anything. Did anyone see anything?
NBC: See what?

Are there pictures of the damage done to their faces in this savage attack? Those are more potent than words alone.

What is meant by "union shirts"? Did they have the name and local of the union?

'Fraid not. Would you like me to bend over while I'm at it? If this is your approach, you might as well stay home with the shutters drawn and let someone else take care of the dirty work.

Like I said, this is the political approach to a violent problem. If they are going to seriously hurt you, do whatever you need to do to stop them. This is only for show, if you have cameras and witnesses. Otherwise, fight back.

ok what I meant by right to work is NOT have to join a union to work, in other words work any place you want. I know all about having to join a union to work happened to me in 1980 when I moved to minnesota, I did not have a option, either I joined the union or not work.
