I heard Fred Barnes say today on Special Report during the panel discussion that the latest Gallup Poll was done on a weekend and that the sample was 47-48%! I read a day or so ago that it was a weekend poll but I hadn't heard that the sample{Democrat)was that large. Can anybody add to what Fred said or from another source about this poll? Thanks.

http://www.andrewsullivan.com/ Sullivan picked up on that as well.
"BY THE WAY: Do most national polls have 48 percent Democrats, like the CNN/USA Today poll? It seems pretty loaded in that direction to me. Where are all the Independents?"

I heard him say that on the show, as well. He said something about the fact that those types of polls are done on weekends when more Dems are home...etc.

With caller ID, the telephone poll sampling is getting worse by the day. If I don't know someone, I don't answer!

"Telephone polls are worthless. Only people who participate are lonely and/or bored." And yet that's how polling is done nowadays.
To: PhiKapMom
If I don't know someone, I don't answer!A typically conservative attitude. No wonder these polls are so screwy. I don't talk to pollsters either.

You could be right, all I know is that I've never been polled. I guess I'm not the only one. I've never heard of anybody that I know that's ever been polled either.

I've had this weird thought buzzing around my head for days, I don't think we really have all these Democratic presidential candidates out there. It bothers me that they are rarely critical of each other, and spend damned near their entire time beating on Bush.
These guys are actually assassins, chipping away at Bush, and trying to figure out whether the president could be beaten or not, and weakening him as much as possible in the meantime.
I don't think we've seen the real Democratic candidate yet.

Its WAAAAAY too early to get worked up over these polls. There is tons of news that will happen between now and November '04 - and the final news cycle that happens within 72 hours of the election will have a huge impact.
Besides, the public hasn't even begun to analyze the platform of whatever the dumbocrat running against Bush has to offer. Relaxxxxxx.
To: MasonGal
Thanks,MasonGal for confirming what I heard him say. It sure made me feel better, especially since I hadn't heard the part about the sample.

Weekend polls are bad as all the Republicans are at the golf course, tennis club, summer home ,or on their yachts.... where as the Dems are at home trying to get their relatives to return the $15.00 they stole, so they pay last June's rent...

Polls are worthless. The only polls that matter are the polls on election day (or polls who say whichever candidate I like and support are ahead -- then it is a GOOD POLL to site here and anywhere else).

That ain't a weird thought. It is a given fact. They are pathetic assassins.
To: Luis Gonzalez
I have been wondering the same thing but the date for them to declare is coming fast. They all attack Bush like it is orchestrated by the Clintons. The only one I can see them having trouble controlling is Dean -- so I figure they will tank him.
It is pretty bad when they start really slanting polls against the President. Have a hunch Pres Bush is going to win in a landslide and the RATs are going to pay for all these attacks while we have our military men and women fighting overseas. Never did think that Hillary Clinton was too attuned politically even though she won NY. She is the Republicans best fundraiser when she donates to an opponent of the Republican.
If Hillary decides to run, the money Republicans will take in to fight the Clintons will be enormous.
Next few months should prove very interesting!

I know you're right,it's just that it was something of a shock for me to see something like that at first. Carl Cameron said this evening that Republicans(White House?)have been saying since April that the President's numbers would go down and that his numbers are within the margin of error.
To: PhiKapMom
I have caller ID...if it came up "Polling Co." I'd pick up.
Mostly I get "Out of Area" and lately a new "Private Caller". My wife gives me ugly looks when "private caller" would come up! lol
And if I look up their phone number and area code on the Internet and it's not listed in white and yellow pages, I'm leary.
I did get three or four calls in two weeks from some place in Denver, could have been a polling firm as far as I know. If they don't leave a message I don't care either.

I was polled once by CNN-USA Today. It was about 8 years ago, and they asked if I approved of Clinton. I was so excited, I answered way more than she wanted, I'm sure. I made sure my vote was solidly in the NO column.
To: Lady In Blue
Heard Bill Schneider on CNN announce the poll and I thought he needed to change his depends on the spot.

No offense, but I'm tired of people saying "I've never been polled".
That doesn't mean squat. With over 200 million people in the USA, and the fact that many times only 1,000 people are polled, of course the odds are against you being polled.
To: garbanzo
Republicans can afford to have a life and refuse to answer unknown phone calls. I bet Reps use more caller-id[s] than the Dims. LMAO.
48% of dems in a poll, now that's something really wild. Even in Cali, dims are just 45% of the total, and god forbid this country is becoming as lefty as cali (no) - mexifornia!

Results are based on telephone interviews with 1,003 National Adults, aged 18+, conducted September 19-21, 2003. For results based on the total sample of National Adults, one can say with 95% confidence that the margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points.
For results based on the sample of -480-Democrats and Democratic leaners, the maximum margin of sampling error is ±5 percentage points.
For results based on the sample of -423-Democrats and Democratic leaners who are registered to vote, the maximum margin of sampling error is ±5 percentage points.
In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.

I love how today Wes Clark leads Bush in polling. Of course, a random sampling of 10,000 folks would probably find that 85% have no FRICKING clue as to who Wes Clark is, what he did during his life, what political experience he has, etc...
So, somebody that virtually nobody knows, is going to beat GW? Yeah, right.
