I enjoy Cabo Wabo Reposado. Very smooth sipping...with a slight peppery aftertone. Keep the bottle in the 'fridge, use appertif glass.

Sauza Hornitos also compares very favorably against other 100% agave tequilas trying to price themselves like cognac.

Mexican law requires that in order to be called tequila it need only be 51% agave
You are right, I had not considered that. The more expensive T's are 100% and states so on the bottle.
We should feel no outrage, though, if the Mexicans wish to produce and bottle their own in their own country.

My particular favorite is El Tesoro de Don Felipe Paradiso
I adore their Anejo. Unfortunately, what could be found for $25 a few years back is now $50.

Straight up, sipped like cognac (which I detest).
I drink 'em with one cube to chill it, then fished out to avoid diluting it.
And you have a hard time finding a decent cognac under $100. XO is the level you need to be at to enjoy "real" cognac (analogous to "single malt" for schotch, typicallly $30-40 or more to get the represaetative quality stuff.) One bargain cognac is Gabriel & Andreu, which avoids the clying flavor of most big-name VSOPs.

Ditto on the Sauza Hornitos.
At great pain, my brothers and I recently held a Tequilla taste off and the Hornitos won hands down.

Aren't the lily and amaryllis poisonous? I know they can kill cats. Is the agave not poisonous or is the poison removed?

If you think that $15 is expensive, I have a $200 bottle of Tequila Brandy in my cupboard.

Money was already spent on the Paradiso 750ml - $105 at Houston's finest, Specs Liquor Warehouse ... best prices and biggest selection in the state. Had to special order it though.
http://web.specsonline.com/ I will try the Casa Noble

I used to date a man who owned a tequila distillery in Mexico, so I know everything there is to know about tequila and the blue agave. He had some tequila brandy made and gave me a bottle. It stinks to high heavens, but it is still $200 a bottle.
I only drink Tequila in a margarita, on the rocks, salt the rim, please. Usually I am a Bombay Sapphire gin drinker.

Knob Creek is one of several "small batch" bourbons available these days, as is Woodford Reserve mentioned in a previous post. Both are top knotch bourbon that should only be enjoyed straight, maybe with a little ice. They taste like Makers Mark or Wild Turkey (80 proof) only a little smoother with more subtle flavor.
Southern Comfort is not bourbon, and, frankly, is a crime against whiskey.
To: Pompah
Casa Noble is the best stuff, worth every penny. Ive been drinking it for many years now and it is my favorite tequila.
