NEW YORK -- Edward W. Said, a Columbia University professor, literary critic and leading spokesman in the United States for the Palestinian cause, has died, his editor at Knopf publishers said Thursday. He was 67.
Said died at a New York hospital, said editor Shelly Wanger. He had suffered from leukemia at least since the early 1990s.

Knopf is the same outfit fronting X42 for his "memoirs." Is Knopf the Regnery of the far left?
To: Alter Kaker
Did he explode himself??
Or did he just tell his people's children that suicide/homicide is the only option?

Good riddance.
To: Alter Kaker
Any mention of if Mr. Said went directly to hell? (Do not pass Go - do not collect ...)
To: Alter Kaker
Now that he's gone I'm sure there are many at Columbia who will step up to replace terrorism's Man on Campus.

He was really a very reprehensible person.
He incited anti-Semitic violence, he worked hard all his life to degrade and politicize American academia, he caused a lot of pain and damage in his career.
I'm sorry to say it, but we really are much better off without him.

Is pronounced Sa-Eed. But no matter. Is ironic that "academic" works most known for late professor, post-collonial study of "Orientalism," are completely omitted from obituary. It is perhaps wrong to speak ill of dead, but this man was bad (but very influential) scholar in addition to supporter of bad politics.

I hate to burden this site with even more bad news but ...
FRIENDS OF the fabled writer Gore Vidal are sympathizing. His companion of more than 50 years, the charming Howard Austin, died in Los Angeles Monday night. Gore says there will be no ceremony until someday when he and Howard are both laid to rest in Washington's Rock Creek Cemetery near the monument to Henry Adams.

Let's just chalk it up to the process of a diseased mind.

Said and Austin? Much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth...somewhere...I guess....

Perhaps Mr. Arafat should apply for the position. Is that what they said about Said or is that what Said said?
I don't think even Arafat could brainwash students like some these professors here have been able to do. My brother-in-law was a Pro-Israel conservative Republican before going to UofI and then only three weeks into it he had a pro-Palestinian opinion that that Israelis were the oppressors. He refused to listen to anyone else's opinions about it except for his instuctor's.

He had suffered from leukemia at least since the early 1990s. I am sure the Israelis have injected him with that... stuff. And now Mossad simply killed him in the hospital. Belgian courts will shortly charge Sharon for personally murdering Said.

Gore says there will be no ceremony until someday when he and Howard are both laid to rest in Washington's Rock Creek Cemetery near the monument to Henry Adams. The Romans would have brought them together in death, but in a rather different way.

Palestinian Scholar Edward W. Said Dies Why should I pretend to mourn? The man was niether a "Palestinian" nor a "scholar". He was born in Cairo and grew up there; and then he invented a whole new persona for himself. Was Goebbels a "scholar" too?

Just found this, thought it was interesting, it was with the photo of him throwing the rocks:
link
"People who live in glass houses...
"Well-known Palestinian American academic, Edward Said, has embroiled himself in further controversy regarding his conduct. Late last year, a storm brewed up over the revelations produced by Justus Reid Weiner that Said had systematically mis-represented himself for several decades as a Palestinian refugee forcibly evicted by Israel, when in fact he spent an affluent childhood in Cairo.
"Said has described Weiners findings as a tissue of lies, yet implicitly conceded their accuracy in the corrected version that now appears in his own memoir, Out of Place."

I can't believe the article repeated the lie that Said was born in Jerusalem. It has been conclusively proven that Said was born to an upper-middle class family in Cairo, then under nominal British control. His story, as we learned, was completely false. Said attended a posh private school in Cairo. And in July 2000, Said was photographed throwing rocks over the Lebanese border into Israel, attempting to hit Israelis on the other side. The Columbia Daily Spectator, his own universitys student paper, commented that his hypocritical violent action was alien to this or any other institution of higher learning.
