CNBC DEBATE: THOSE DESPERATE DEMS

Democrats So Desperate To Attack President
Bush, They Will Say Just About Anything!

_____________________________________________________________________________

CLARK NEEDS TO CHECK HIS NUMBERS

Clark Claimed Social Security Could Be Saved With Just One-Third Of Bush Tax Cuts. “George Bush said that he would protect Social Security, but all he’s done is present tax cuts. His tax cuts total three times the amount of money needed to make the Social Security system solvent for the next 75 years.” (Wesley Clark, CNBC/The Wall Street Journal Democrat Candidates Debate, 9/25/03)

Bush Tax Cuts Cost $1.7 Trillion. (“Estimated Budget Effects Of The Conference Agreement For H.R. 1836,” Joint Committee On Taxation, 5/26/01; “Estimated Budget Effects Of The Conference Agreement For H.R. 2, The ‘Jobs And Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act Of 2003,” Joint Committee On Taxation, 5/22/03)

Between 2017 And 2076, Social Security Deficits Will Total Over $25 Trillion. “From 2017 to 2076, Social Security will run payroll tax deficits worth over $25 trillion (in today’s dollars). To restore solvency under the current [Social Security] program, we can either increase payroll taxes by over 50 percent - from the current 12.4 percent to almost 20 percent - or reduce benefits by over one-quarter.” (Andrew G. Biggs, “Who’s Cutting What?: Comparing Costs And Benefits In The Social Security Reform Debate,” The Cato Institute, 9/10/02)

KERRY TELLS ANOTHER WHOPPER

Kerry Claimed Democrats Proposed 10 Percent Tax Bracket. “The 10 percent bracket wasn’t George Bush’s idea. It was our idea.” (Sen. John Kerry, CNBC/The Wall Street Journal Democrat Candidates Debate, 9/25/03)

10 Percent Tax Bracket In Original Bush Plan. “[T]he first $43,050 of a married couple’s taxable income is now taxed at 15 percent. Under the Bush plan, the first $12,000 would be taxed at 10 percent and the next $31,050 at 15 percent.” (Eric Pianin and Albert B. Crenshaw, “GOP Fight Bares Schism On Taxes,” The Washington Post, 1/22/00)

GEPHARDT MISREPRESENTS HIS HEALTH CARE PROPOSAL

Gephardt Says His Health Care Proposal Would Stimulate Economy And Help Average Families. “My plan is the best plan. It’s the only plan that helps everybody. … Further than that, I help average families more than the Bush tax cuts.” (Rep. Dick Gephardt, CNBC/The Wall Street Journal Democrat Candidates Debate, 9/25/03)

But Boston Globe Columnist Says Gephardt Would Abandon Working Class. “[T]he ‘complete repeal’ Dean and Gephardt favor includes increases in the child tax credit, the establishment of a new bottom tax rate of 10 percent, and the substantial broadening of the base for the 15 percent income tax rate. … The amounts involved are huge by ordinary Americans’ standards – more than $1,500 annually for a household with $40,000 in income … Dean and Gephardt may argue that in the long run everyone is better off if the tax cuts are repealed and health insurance made universal, but John Maynard Keynes famously observed that in the long run we are all dead.” (Thomas Oliphant, Op-Ed, “Democrats Split On Tax-Cut Issue,” The Boston Globe, 8/26/03)

And Wall Street Journal Columnist Alan Murray Says Few Think Gephardt’s Health Care Plan Would Stimulate Economy. “[U]niversal health-care insurance may be a laudable goal, but you won’t find many people, aside from Rep. Richard Gephardt, arguing that it’s an effective economic stimulus.” (Alan Murray, “Democrats Need Clear Ideas To Win Debate On Economy,” The Wall Street Journal, 8/12/03)

Some clarification. ;^) Would that the RATS would expend as much effort fighting for traditional and constitutional values! How they continue to get away with trashing America is beyond me.

Clark says one third of 1.7 trillion is greater than 25 trillion--must be that special Rhodes Scholar math.

Kerry, the french-looking antiwar activist, simply lies to deny Bush credit for the ten percent bracket.

Gephardt lives up to his grassroots nickname Howdy Doody with a delusion that socialized health care is a stimulus--perhaps it is, but to socialized bureaucrats, not the GDP.

Democrats flail about like combative victims of concussion.
