Quit making a Maureen Dowd out of yourself. If you are going to quote me, do so in context.
This is what I said:
No candidate has more grass roots support than McClintock. He has just passed Huffington among all contenders in total number of individual donors, and Tom has a lower percentage of out-of-state donors than any candidate.
Almost since the day Arnold and Arianna filed, she has been getting support from numerous out-of-state donors who give in small amounts. Among all major candidates, McClintock had the lowest percentage of out-of-state donors, but lagged behind Huffington in number of donors. Now, Tom has both the most donors as well as the most local donors.
One more thing -- as the person who originated the phrase "Sore/Loserman," I object to your misusing it in your tagline.

hearsay? that's it?! There was room full of people and a press event for Bustamante's guffaw. Hearsay doesn't mean jack and doesn't deserve press.

Exactly right. That's the point that LN Smithee didn't seem to understand. McC speaks with forked tongue.
BTW--the whole McC hates Country Club GOPers because they hate him doesn't fly. If he wants to achieve anything in Sacramento as a Governor, he will have to at least work with the majority.
Unless of course, he can pass all those bills relying solely on the conservatives in the assembly. (I know there are very very few of those.) But hey at least he won't need to dirty his hands or his principles by taking votes or money from the evil country club types....
To: L.N. Smithee
You're right I hope he stays in the race, a lot will become clearer on October 8th.

I don't know Tom's supposedly clean hands seem pretty well coated in casino cash and country club dollars now. I wonder who he'll supposedly stand up against next.

"Two word response: Ronald Reagan"Ahhhh yes. Ronald Reagan a great man. But not the conservative purist that so many "true believers" seem to think about. 100 bucks says that if you knew Reagan you'd probably accuse him of being a RINO.

I think of Ronald Reagan as a great man because he stood up for his beliefs. And, because of that, many who didn't always agree with him respected him.
If he were around today, wouldn't the pragmatists be running someone who "can win" against him?

"I have never been popular in the country club wing of the Republican party," McClintock said in interview Sunday before another full day of campaigning. "I've always drawn my strength from grassroots voters, and I'm quite content with that."
Just strikes me as funny that the backroom backstabbers should be miffed that McClintock isn't grateful to play ball with them.

McClintock shrugs off these kinds of predictions as "terrorist threats" from people who've never liked him anyway, and repeats his vow to race to the finish. "I've always found wisdom in the motto on Davy Crocket's pocketwatch that was found in the debris of the Alamo," McClintock said, "'Be sure you're right, and go ahead."' Come on. I would like to leave him alone and let him run but... don't you think his self-portrait of fighting terrorists at the Alamo is just a bit over the top?
To: grania
I think Reagan was a great man as well but fact of the matter is, is that according to the conservative litmus test in which many of you McClintock supporters impose he would have never been governor of California nor President of the United States.
Reagan was a Republican for only 4 years prior to his run as Governor as a Republican. Prior to that he had been a lifelong Democrat that was married to a prominent Democrat, Jane Wyman.
During his first term in office he raised taxes over 140 million dollars, he signed an abortion rights bill into law, and he signed a gun control bill into law. He also supported an open boarders program and had double spending on education by the time he left state office.
As President he he gave amnesty to over 2.4 million illegal immigrants. And later in life he supported the Brady Bill. So by all these accords some McClintock supporters may be inclined to label Reagan as a RINO. But that's only half the story and if you knew the whole story you'd know that reagan was a true conservative but a man that had a broader vision and compromising nature that some conservatives just don't understand.

Ahhh I hope that it's not another one of those the sins of the father crap arguements again. I don't recall Katie Couric making a big deal out of the fact that Al Gore's daddy was the son of a segragationist tobbaco farmer.
