It's dinnertime at the Barton household and Madilyn's turn to say grace. Holding her parents' hands, the 5-year-old races through the blessing: "God-is-great-God-is-good-Let-us-thank-him-for-our-food," she says breathlessly.

Night after night in their two-story Orlando home, Craig and Don Barton and their adopted daughters follow a routine familiar to millions of families. As a gay couple, Craig, known as "Papa" to his girls, and Don, the man they call "Daddy," may not be apple-pie traditional, but, like most committed parents, their daily lives center on their children.

The Bartons are part of the "gayby boom," an explosion in the number of gays and lesbians who, at peace with themselves and their place in society, are choosing parenthood through adoption or reproductive technology.

"There was a sizable boom in the 1990s, but today it's a groundswell," said April Martin, author of The Lesbian and Gay Parenting Handbook. "There is a seismic shift in the number of gays and lesbians who feel parenting is a real option."

Today, the twins often play with neighbor Lisa's 5-year-old son. Sometimes, he'll tell his mom how sad it is that Madilyn and Marilyn don't have a mommy, but his mother has an explanation.

Lisa's 5-year-old son is the smartest one in the bunch. But his mommy is already busy trying to "educate" the common sense out of him...when she's not leaving him in the care of the homosexual men next door.

That was one of the 'problems' they are facing, according to the article. One of the 2 men is the real father and the other is not recognized as a parent by Fla law. The arrangement 'works' as long as nothing happens to the father. Then the other guy has no legal standing. The article says they have some secret escape plan. I imagine it involves kidnapping the kid and taking him out of state.

The answer is that there ARE enough willing couples. The ordeal couples go through to adopt is amazing. It can take 10-15 years, cost tens of thousands of dollars, and the state governments put obstacle after obstacle in their way. In some states, you have to go through multiple legal background checks and medical checks. In some states, you have to go through special liberal training, depending on the route you choose for adoption.

I used to attend an adoption support group in Charlotte. There were hundreds of couples attending, trying desperately to adopt. Many of them had been through multiple failed adoptions, where they had the baby in their home and then the govt came and took the baby away. I sat up all night with a dear couple who lost their baby that way. The husband was particularly devestated.

Considering how cruel kids are these kids will probably be suicidal or drug addicts or simply loathe themselves enough to become sodomites like their parents. Actually sodomites have a very high drug abuse rate.

No I did not buy into their argument. Homosexuality is wrong. However I believe that the foster care system we have in place is worse for a child's welfare than being raised in ANY household where the parent/s love that child.
