Metzger is an unqualified political appointee anyway. It's so silly that Chief Rabbis are term-limited. The real Chief Rabbis have been Elishav and Yosef for some time.

Would to G-d that He pour out His Spirit on the House of Israel, that they would remember their heritage and history and not seek to appease those who would much rather kill them.
