If she was in the Directorate for Operations and that information were classified, she'd probably meet the test of a 'covert agent' as defined by 50 USC Section 246:

(4) The term ''covert agent'' means -

(A) a present or retired officer or employee of an intelligence agency or a present or retired member of the Armed Forces assigned to duty with an intelligence agency -

(i) whose identity as such an officer, employee, or member is classified information, and
(ii) who is serving outside the United States or has within the last five years served outside the United States; or

(B) a United States citizen whose intelligence relationship to the United States is classified information, and -

(i) who resides and acts outside the United States as an agent of, or informant or source of operational assistance to, an intelligence agency, or
(ii) who is at the time of the disclosure acting as an agent of, or informant to, the foreign counterintelligence or foreign counterterrorism components of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; or

(C) an individual, other than a United States citizen, whose past or present intelligence relationship to the United States is classified information and who is a present or former agent of, or a present or former informant or source of operational assistance to, an intelligence agency.

Maybe there's some jurisprudence that defines this more narrowly. BTW, here's a link to a story detailing a Freedom of Information Act activist's plans to intentionally publish the names of retired (still covered, see above) covert agents which were on a New York Times website.

Before Wilson's appearance on Fox and Friends this morning, Brian Kilmeade (sp) presented some background on the story (obviously for the non-freepers in the audience). He explained Wilson's trip to Niger and his reporting method upon return. Supposedly, Wilson did not submit a written report, only an oral one. Wilson has said that his oral report was out there for all to see.

This has Bill and Hillary written all over it.

If she was a CIA covert agent, would she be seen at such a public function?

Doesn't "covert agent" mean "no apparent connection to parent agency" rather than "has no public life"? I'd imagine covert agents are seen at very public functions all the time. Those seeing them simply assume they are bureaucrats, teachers, journalists, or what have you rather than agents. Living a seemingly normal and mundane life is their cover.

I think you're out of date. Don't have the articles in front of me, but IIRC the Wash Post has already backpedaled from "Senior Whitehouse officials" (Sunday) to "Administration officials" (Monday). Anybody have the exact wording? Again, I *think* "senior" has been DROPPED.

One wonders what level of security clearance Wilson has and if he was even capable an investigation of "yellowcake."

This is a setup to discredit President Bush and drag him down to the same slimy level the clinton Administration lived at.

The Left and their Media shills will scream bloody murder and demand investigations and "answers". After a while the fuss will quiet down. Much later when real answers come, it will be proven there were no Administration leaks. That will get Page 20B, if at all, by the Press and no mention on the news networks. The lasting impression left for the public is Bush is guilty, broke the law, and hid something illegal which he or his henchmen did for political gain.

This is the technique the Left has been using for decades to smear their opponents. It's the same playbook as always. Nothing has changed. It's sooooo predictable!

A thought. I was interviewing a senior administration official on Ambassador Wilson's report when he told me the trip was inspired by his wife, a CIA employee working on weapons of mass destruction. Another senior official told me the same thing. As a professional journalist with 46 years experience in Washington, I do not reveal confidential sources.

Could it be that ALL are missing a point here? NEPOTISIM, and that as the English teacher on Hannity is stating, this statement is NOT CLEAR, it does not clearly state that it could be a CIA admin official, a judicial official, or State Dept official he was talking to. It assumes WE KNOW the difference.

NEPOTISIM like cronism is highly frowned upon, especially NEPOTISIM.
