It's not a big deal to me. It's as important as when do I get the oil changed on my car. Just writing my opinon on a mundane topic.

Okay, you went to the trouble of not only pinging me with this picture in the thread, but also later FReepmailed its URL to me, both times without comment. What's the point?

Oh, and for the record, you dropped this little gem in #206:

There are two misguided individuals who can not [sic] resist attacking Catholicism every chance they get. News of the Pope's death will bring them comfort and joy.

Although I haven't disparaged your pope, your tone seems to imply "great comfort and joy" would be inappropriate.

News of my father-in-law's death brought many of us great comfort and joy. As a born-again believer who was suffering from ALS (a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's Disease), he went to a better place. My wife was with him as he left us, and she'll tell you the expression on his face at the last moment was one of awe and gladness, looking upward as if he was gazing on the Lord Himself. Surely you would agree "great comfort and joy" is appropriate in such a case.

Conversely, given the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, none should take any comfort or joy from the physical death of even the most evil of nonbelievers, who would be only beginning an eternity in punishment. In the midst of the celebrations which will inevitably follow the news of Osama bin Laden's demise, I'll try to keep that in mind. But, I also won't wag a condescending finger at those who celebrate.

Spare me. Your only business on this thread is diparagment of the Pope (incidentally, would it kill you to capitalize the word? -it's a proper name in addition to a description) and everything he stands for. Your continued participation here is nothing short of dancing on his grave.

(incidentally, would it kill you to capitalize the word? -it's a proper name in addition to a description)

Main Entry: pope
Pronunciation: 'pOp
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English pApa, from Late Latin papa, from Greek pappas, papas, title of bishops, literally, papa
Date: before 12th century
1 often capitalized : a prelate who as bishop of Rome is the head of the Roman Catholic Church
2 : one that resembles a pope (as in authority)
3 a : the Eastern Orthodox or Coptic patriarch of Alexandria b : a priest of an Eastern church

"Often" capitalized. Sometimes not. Get over it.

Your continued participation here is nothing short of dancing on his grave.

My continued participation here is nothing more than responding to your continued p*ssing in my direction.

"Spare me," indeed. Go whine to your mama about your victim status after you post some more Anna K pics. You're not mourning as you should.

The director of the independent Peace Research Institute in Oslo said he believed the pope was the most likely Nobel winner, even though he thought the committee wanted a Muslim winner.

What a peace loving Arab.

Which is why I pointed out that "it's a proper name in addition to a description." But your hatred of all things Catholic drives you to seek out a loophole rather then give the man the respect he deserves. You have an ugly soul.

Leave the guy alone and stop parading him around like a freak show.

You really should only speak about things you understand.

The Pope is doing what he wants. No one is "parading him around." If he wanted to retire and go hide in a closet, watching TV, he would. Instead, he'd rather weather the potshots from ignorant folks like you and display the dignity you could only dream of.

1. First of all those aren't scientists, those are liars. 2. Evolution eliminates the need for God. If Evolution eliminates the need for God, does human intercourse (another biological process) do the same? After all, biology is based in fact, not faith. Since most educated adults agree that a scientific event takes place when sperm fertilizes an egg, that pretty much eliminates the need for the Supernatural (i.e. God)... This is a prime example of why the fundamentalist dispensing of scientific fact to uphold rigid interpretation of Creation is rife with pitfall...

Good point. I like referring to Protestants as "christians", myself.

Admittedly, the touchy-feely approach that dominated Catholic evangelization in the 70's and 80's contributed to the growing tepidity of Catholic-American youth. There was way too much "thinking out of the box" going on during Homilies ('Jesus didn't REALLY feed all thos people with just six loaves -- they just all shared'), and the Church lost its edge, in my humble opinion. I believe we have seen the tide begin to turn, however, and the Holy Spirit is moving "orthodox" clergy to have greater courage in proclaiming what is truth and what is error (e.g. actively emphasizing church teaching on abortion, contraception, life and death, etc...)

Thanks for your posts. I appreciate your insight and am grateful for the issues/teachings we agree on together...

Clarification: Though I do NOT view Evolution as a proven fact, only a theory that commands investigation...

Regardless of the fact that you're flying in the face of Webster's, I'd expect nothing less. Your lowercase treatment of His name might also provide some insight regarding your view of Christ's sufficiency to save sinners.

I appreciate you all clearing up some of my misgivings. I spent my youth until the early 80's (through High School) attending Mass. I had many good spiritual experiences at retreats and during catechism (I was confirmed by Cardinal Mahoney, who was a Bishop at the time). Your assessment is precisely why I moved on.

Likewise.

Yeah, a real 'ish shalom'.

Has Juan converted to Islam yet? Well, you know what that means...

If watching someone deteriorate publically gives one "dignity" there is something very wrong with advocates.

I often wonder what Jesus thinks when people kiss the feet or hands and pray TO another sinner. I suspect He's not real thrilled about this.

If you think the sick and old should be hidden from public view and forced out of their jobs, there is something very wrong with you.

When's the last time you saw someone who is on their death bed being paraded around as though all was well? When someone is so ill they are no longer working. I wouldn't expect a person so ill to be working nor an employer FORCE them to be paraded around as though they were contributing.

Amazing how you defend cruelty. Sick.

Whom do you imagine to be the Pope's employer?

The Pope has a will to work and to travel that is stronger than his physical body. It's a shame you think that the old and weak should just be warehoused and shuttered until death. You've a lot to learn about dignity.
