Why We Should Boycott ESPN

Posted on 10/02/2003 7:52:46 AM PDT by Libs R Evil

ESPN could easily have come out and said that Rush said nothing wrong, and said they supported him and wanted him to stay, but instead they sat back and did nothing. IMO anyone who aquiesces to PC naziism, or refuses to stand up against it is part of the problem. IMO its time for a boycott of ESPN.

We should wait to hear from Rush (did he resign on his own) before we make a move like this, IMHO.

Thats why the liberal crowd is winning. One of these days soon it may be too late to sacrifices a little for a lot.
You are certainly entitled to do as you wish but conservatives need to take a stand before it is too late.
A white person is the only person in the world who is not off limits to the PC crowd and even white liberals get away with much more than Rush said!

Maybe in July/August.

As for Sept-June, SportsCenter is not missed.

Sorry. Plus, I happen to have many friends who work there and I get cool free stuff all the time.

Some things can't be avoided.

I wouldn't boycott ESPN over the Rush incident. I listen to him regularly, and I tuned in on Sunday morning just because he was on the show. Now that he won't be there, I won't tune in to that particular show.

The ESPN executives are relieved that Rush is gone. But they wear panties, so what else could you expect?

Hey, at least they gave Rush a chance. IMHO, even though what he said may have some merit he probably should not have said it.

ESPN is owned by ABC. ABC gave Dennis Miller a shot. ESPN gave Rush a shot. I give them credit considering most people think of them as a 'liberal' network.

Heard a statement read by ESPN that they regretted Rush's comments and that they were inappropriate.

So much for ESPN standing by their man!

As far as I am concerned, we can let them know how much we regret ESPN.......especially if you are a Neilson family.

Rush did NOT try to "turn a football show into a political show." The PC MEDIA is GUILTY of THAT!!!! sheesh. Rush just stated a THOUGHT (OH, MY, GOD.....THOUGHTS)...that is patently obvious to MANY and, offensive (anything about RACE) to the "OFFENDED PARTY, commonly known as Democrats in Commie drag.

If I am not mistaken, ABC is owned by Disney. Anyone want to call them fair and balanced. They hired Rush because their bottom line is at sewer level and we know why.

Now we can support Rush by letting ESPN know how we feel about their getting wobbly or we can sit back in silence.

---"Ah, but Rush DID do something wrong. He tried to turn a football show into a political show. And that's not what ESPN is selling."----

Actually, he didn't. He was criticizing the sports media, which is fair game on a show about sports.

This country has basically gone insane. Someone can either be fired or encouraged to resign by pressure for saying something that should be thought-provoking yet NON-controversial. Agree or disagree, the idea that the media is aware of diversity concerns and might treat athletes differently because of race is a legitimate opinion that should be discussed. There is nothing outrageous, racist or "fire-able" about such an opinion even if you think the premise is incorrect.

Outraged? You bet.

Sorry, Rush used a sports show to take a swipe at the news media. What he said may or may not have been right or racist or whatever, but certainly had no place in that forum.

I like Rush and if he said that he thought McNabb was over rated and left it at that we wouldn't even be talking about this today.

I know that to a lot of you, Rush is always right, can do no wrong, etc etc ...

Despite the fact that there was merit to what he said,he should have known that a racial flavoured comment on ESPN would cause lots of trouble. Pro Sports are a mainstay in the African-American community.

The guy has such an blatant boring ego problem, he thinks he can do whatever he pleases.

"I tuned in on Sunday morning just because he was on the show. Now that he won't be there, I won't tune in to that particular show."

I, too, tuned in just because he was on the show. But I was disappointed because I really didn't think he added anything significant. Every time he talked, one or more of the guys at the main desk would talk OVER him. He rarely got to talk in the clear.

While I would agree with him that the media HAS hyped McNabb a bit, there are currently some fine QB's in the NFL that are black and need no hyping. And I think that any mention of McNabb's race was unnecessary. It would have been sufficient to simply say that McNabb had been over-rated and let it go at that.

I won't watch the show again, but not because of Rush either being there or not being there. He didn't add anything, and I don't particularly the show anyway. I'd rather just watch the games.

That's ridiculous. It's like a saying a woman should be smart and not wear sexy clothing around a rapist.

While it may actually be better for your well-being not to do that, I don't pretend the rapist doesn't get the blame.
This is ESPN and society's problem, not Limbaugh's.

Don't know if I'm duplicating another post, but Rush was giving the credit for the Eagles' success to their defense (in his opinion). It just so happens that 10 of the 11 first team defense players are black. Now if Rush had said "black defense" instead of just "defense", maybe all this would not have happened. I guess it depends on how much Rush-haters need to inject race into every argument.

Up front, I am and have been a Broncos fan for 29 years and look forward to kicking the Chiefs butt this weekend!

Everyone remember Brian Griese as the Denver QB? I never thought that Brian was that bad a QB, just that his teammates never made any plays when they needed to. Brian was murdered by the media in Denver. In fact, some of the OP piece writers are still dogging Griese.

I live in the Philadelphia area. I like Donovan McNabb and have followed him all through college and his years in Philly. Although Donovan has played simply awful QB as of late, Donovan has not gotten the business from the Philly media like Griese got from the Denver media, and there is one reason why. What Limbaugh said is true and if you look at the coverage of the 2 QBs like I have, it is easy to see that the media is reluctant to dog a black QB like they would a white.

Why is it racist to state the obvious?

He tried to turn a football show into a political show. And that's not what ESPN is selling.

Sports pundits analyze individual skills and team strengths all the time. They also routinely talk at the "meta-level", analyzing trends in opinions of sports fans or aficionados. From that point of view, it was not outside the proper purview of a sports show. What made it political was that PC sensitivities were offended. That is noteworthy in and of itself.

OTOH, I don't think the "controversial" assessment was that insightful. People generally criticize Donovan McNabb or any other quarterback, black or not, on his merits. Rush' takes on football are of marginal value to me, and this is one more example of that. Therefore, the political "content" of the statement stands out all the more.

I could care less about ESPN. I already boycott CBS, NBC, ABC, MTV, VH1, and CNN (and told them that when Neilsen sent me a survey). I could care less about watching most sports. I would rather go play them instead of watching. If a business is broadcasting a football or hockey game (the only ones I watch) I will look at them, but I have too many other things to do to watch sports much anyways.

All watching TV (especially the news) does is raise my blood pressure and I want to live past 35... At this rate, I won't make it till 31... and I'm 30 now.

The Neo-Libs (read National Socialists) want to do everything they can to detroy anyone critical of their insane beliefs. Already there is a report on Drudge about a supposed drug addiction by Rush. They, the Libs, have this Wilson thing out (another lie) and now the Rush "incident" (all he did was tell the truth). They are trying to bury the Kuwait WMD sting operation.

If the Libs really want to see racists and bigots, all they need to do is look in a mirror.
