Some see actor as star for GOP if elected governor - But they worry how successful he'll be in post

Washington -- A growing giddiness is enveloping Washington Republicans about the prospect that the mother lode of national politics may lie within their grasp, just in time for the 2004 presidential election.

But this joy is tempered by considerable doubt about just what they might be getting in Arnold Schwarzenegger, who remains an unknown commodity -- and whose admission Thursday that he "behaved badly" toward women in the past strikes the wrong note for a party that trumpets family values and historically has not done well with female voters.

A caller to Michael Medved's radio show made a good point today:

Democrats (gray & cruz & company) are scared to death about what-all GOVERNOR ARNOLD'S "independent audit" will reveal.

Political parties exist not to win willy-nilly but to win on their principles. Victory is not the end, but the means to the end, which is the enactment of the party's platform. If substanceless winning were the purpose of political parties, platform documents would be blank.
California Republican leaders have turned the means into the end, and thereby turned the party over to liberals. Their talk of a Republican rebirth is laughable -- unless they mean that the party is being reborn as a sister party to the Democratic one.

Watch your back, they're about to bend us over.

Wecome to the McClintock party. If you don't like the RP, don't let the door hit you on the way out bud. At least I had enough back-bone to leave the party when I didn't like what was going on.

If we never had the recall, it wouldn't have been particularly damaging to the Republican Party.

But to have the recall and then have the Dems triumph by either Davis retaining the governorship, or Bustamante getting in, would make the GOP the laughing stock of the country for the next 10 years and would give a much needed shot in the arm to the Democrats.

That is why it's imperative that Davis get recalled and Arnold win by a landslide.

Couldn't a "landslide" by Arnold be promoted in the future as a mandate that Arnold is exactly the kind of candidate the Republican voters in California want, while pointing the finger at McClintock and saying, once again, conservatives are losers in California, even though people voting for Arnold really want Tom?

Personally, I'm more concerned about investments and pocketbook accounts than my back. ;-)

Will arnold and the "republicans" lead a charge to stop payments for illegals to receive free healthcare and educations at the expense of businesses and taxpayers?

Don't hold your breath. All the myopic arnold and CA GOP country club elitists and their supporters wouldn't know their own house is on fire if they were standing in the middle of it. I see nothing but a lot of hot air from the entire crowd of late.

Too bad President Bush and his cohorts are willing to be used and abused in the name of "broadening" the party but do little to protect or fight for conservatism as a whole.

What the hell about the country as a whole, and all of its legal citizens? What about our rights?

Chattel R US would appear to be a more appropriate motto for today's political republican groupies and pretenders to the GOP moniker.

The only real losers will be the children and the elderly whose fate will be set in stone; a fate that will mean living like european weinies and sucking from the public teat like a bunch of little mind-numbed bots.

The intent of socialism is to enslave, not free the masses. The intent of conservatives is to get govt out of the way, not to take over total control of everyone's lives.

I don't see that happening as things are playing out per the script that is unfolding before our very eyes.

Better to be deaf , than blind... but never a mute as so many have become as they prepare the way for the elitist to rule.

There is a great deal at stake. That is why the Dems are fighting tooth and nails and the Republicans need to decide whether they want a Republican or Democrat to win, with all the implications. (Hint for the McClintock Republicans)

They are probably enjoying this moment, hoping their man stops Arnold from getting the majority.

Am I the one that is blinded to the fact that 85% of the voting public doesn't buy into McClintock's shtick?
Am I the one who constantly fixates on the moderate Republican, but is blinded to the socialist brown separatist that stands to gain if he is taken down.
Am I the one who trolls around on the forum blinded to the fact that taking down our leading candidate will usher in the the brown hooded one?
Am I the one who is blinded to the reality that those who support Schwarzenegger here, can't help it if the public won't sustain McClintock?

Mute? Elitist?  What a hoot!  I know some deaf and blind elitists that that have been absolutely mute when it comes to Davis and Bustamante.  They've been too bush googling for 25-30 year old dirt on Schwarzenegger.

They say Arnie admires Hitler. Isn`t that better than thinking your Hitler like psycho Hitlery? And all these womens groups protesting him about women; wouldn`t holding up signs that say, "I am the definition of a hypocrite; I am Protesting Arnold even though I was completely silent about Bubba" be more honest? You know, honesty. Like Arnold admitting so far everything they are throwing against him instead of being the "Lying king" like the Arkansas rapist? On the other hand Bubba did say "I did not have sex with that woman." Maybe he was refferring to Juanita Brodderick. Rape isn`t called sex.

The same thing was said of Ronald Reagan when he ran for governor. He did a pretty good job. I remember saying when he ran for president that he may get the nomination, but he could not win a general election. Boy, am I glad I was wrong, and to have lived in the Nation's Capitol metro area for those eight glorious years.

I'll tell you what the GOP is worried about, and it is the same thing they worried about with Reagan. They fear that Schwarzenegger will be too successful and that he won't go along with the GOP big government corruption and graft scheme that is now piling up $500 billion in federal debt each year.

D1 .. you sure try and talk a good line and refute my statements but unfortunately, I see you as just another fence straddler and opportunist on this forum, and your comments are tiresome, to say the least.

Fixation? Who is fixated and set on accomplishing what?

Just winning for the sake of winning on a bunch of hollow soundbites from a candidate who can't debate but sure knows how to primp and pose for the media and the sheople is no great victory for anyone.

You, as many, are so willing to let half a loaf be good enough. That bread is too damn bitter in my judgment, but who am I ? Now Im a troll, huh?. Thanks a lot. You really know how to hurt a guy... NOT. Enjoy your tax hikes and scandals that will be coming soon. Keep telling yourself.. WE Just need to Win, no matter what the cost , long-term.

Shame on you and all who support an empty suit on an elitist agenda journey.

Maybe you should change your name to DOLTYone instead. It would be more in line with your reasoning and hellbent streak on selling out like so manyn others here of late.

Good post! I was one disagreeing with you back then. I knew he'd be great, just as I know Arnie will be great. This is the beginning of our rennaisance. Arnie will go to Sacramento and demand! He will have a more unified middleground righteously supporting him, disgusted with demoncrap crap. This is very possibly the catalyst needed to meltdown the demoncrap machine. The demoncraps know this and are afraid! Not just in California, across the nation, California always starts the trend. Recapture the middleground, with dignity and honor!
