Davis Busy Filling Vacancies and Judgeships Just in Case (and Orders Document Shredding Companies)

The rush to fill the state posts reflects of a broader political reality that has permeated Democratic circles for months. Known by some as Plan B, Davis administration officials and other Democrats are following a "just-in-case" road map of sorts, one that assumes the worst and that involves moving quickly on appointments, important pieces of legislation and other state business.

A team of Mr. Davis's lawyers has gone so far as to research state law to determine that should he lose the recall, Mr. Davis can still sign bills until a new governor is sworn in, which could take several weeks if the vote tally is disputed.

"If I had a bill that I thought would be in danger if there was a Republican governor, I would rather have it done now," said State Senator John Burton, a Democrat who is among those leaning on Mr. Davis, in his case to sign legislation that would provide employer-subsidized health care for the uninsured.

"A lot of times, people put bills in and let them simmer instead of cooking them to a boil," Mr. Burton said. "This year most stuff was cooked to a boil."

Plan B also has a strong pragmatic component. A state official with knowledge of the situation said the governor's office recently put in an order to the state archives for storage boxes, along with a list of approved vendors for shredding documents.

Mr. Flores, who would oversee a transition if Mr. Davis loses, said he was not aware of the requests, and a spokeswoman for the secretary of state's office, which includes the state archives, said. "We can't really say what's going on." But one state official said such preparations would not be surprising.

"It makes sense that they are not going to hand over their trade secrets," the official said.

Of course, if they have to print news against their guy, they do it on Saturday in the hopes no one is reading the paper.

I originally thought that Arnold's "audit" proposal was just some lame campaign slogan, but I am beginning to think that the Rats are really pissing their pants at the prospect of this audit... Why else would they be so hysterical in their attacks against someone who may otherwise be a "fellow traveler" to their causes?

38 billion vanished almost overnight. Where did it go?

I think we now know. Time to call for padlocks on the doors and filing systems. Lockdown the Capitol and seize all the computers.

When those big industrial size evidence shredders fire up, it's probably gonna cause a power failure for the entire Sacramento area. Grayout Davis strikes again.

So did this article end up in the lifestyle section of the NY times?

"A team of Mr. Davis's lawyers has gone so far as to research state law to determine that should he lose the recall, Mr. Davis can still sign bills until a new governor is sworn in, which could take several weeks if the vote tally is disputed."

It's up to the voters to insure that Davis loses by a large enoguh margin that there can be no election dispute. Everybodys help would be appreciated.

I think you are right. The audit is one of the best ideas I have heard in a long time. Davis has "misplaced" $48,000,000,000.00 and I would be astonished if some of that did NOT stick to the fingers of Jackass Party members.

When those big industrial size evidence shredders fire up,

...it would be a shame if Davis didn't read the 'safe feeding' instructions. ;-)
