Homosexual Advocacy Groups Admit 10% Fallacy

By Ed Vitagliano July 30, 2003

(AgapePress) - For decades homosexual pressure groups have claimed that, since 10% of the population is homosexual, public officials should give credence to their political demands. Now it seems that when they absolutely have to tell the truth, activists admit the 10% figure is a myth.

The startling admission was made by a coalition of 31 homosexual advocacy groups, including the Human Rights Campaign, National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. In their brief filed in a recent U.S. Supreme Court case, Lawrence v. Texas, which dealt with that state's sodomy statute, the coalition said that only "2.8% of the male, and 1.4% of the female, population identify themselves as gay, lesbian, or bisexual."

"That 2.1% figure [of the total population] even includes bisexuals, which makes the percentage of people claiming to be exclusively homosexual even lower," said American Family Association president Tim Wildmon.

The origin of the 10% myth is not difficult to uncover. In 1948, sex researcher Alfred Kinsey, a professor at Indiana University, began publishing his material about human sexuality in the U.S., work which would lead to the sexual revolution. Kinsey was the first to say that 10% of the U.S. population was homosexual.

However, in her groundbreaking 1998 book, Kinsey: Crimes & Consequences, Dr. Judith Reisman demolished Kinsey's research as being based on inept science and purposeful deception. Still, homosexuals continued to use the 10% figure in published materials and press interviews to bolster their demands.

Those numbers, the ones used in the lawsuit, were based on a series of polls. They may be low but the various polls seem to correlate. Anyone evaluating our country by its television and movies would have guessed, oh, 62%.

Those numbers used in the lawsuit were from the early Nineties (1991 iirc - published 1994) and the methodology of that study (which I've read as well, for a text I wrote) was itself extremely questionable. The only reason why the legal brief presented that particular figure to the Supreme Court is because the 1991 National Health and Social Life Survey is the only remotely government-sanctioned research to include an estimate of the percentage of gays and lesbians.....

OK, I found a web reference. The NHSLS research was conducted in 1992: National Health and Social Life Survey.

The homosexual revolution is about having sex with whomever you want, when you want, just because you want to.

The power of the revolution is NOT in the percentage of people who are gay, which is tiny.

The power of the revolution is the popularity of its underlying sexual ideology with heterosexuals-which is enormous.

That's not too surprising. I always thought that little "tidbit" was suspect. Even when I'm hanging out in liberal circles... there is not even one gay person for every ten straight people.

The homosexual revolution is about gaining political power, for the purpose of having political, economic, and sociological control over families.

BTW, the greatest problem [aside from dubious sampling] with the cited NHSLS study - just so you may judge for yourself - was their methodology of contacting and securing responses. Describing it from memory, what they did is mail some kind of interview request/notice followed by a phone conversation to set up a personal face-to-face interview. While this greatly increased the response rate (which was the purpose of the method selected) it casts serious question on the veracity of the responses insofar as 'controversial' topics such as sexuality are concerned...

Kinsey admitted that his definition of "homosexual" included anyone who had ever even had a prurient THOUGHT about another of the same gender, anyone who had ever had even a single homosexual encounter, and anyone who had ever questioned his or her gender.

He also admitted that a large portion of his sample came from prison populations, a group known to practice homosexual rape as a means of dominance.

The REAL figures on homosexual prevalence hover at around 1.5 to 2 percent. It's a figure that hasn't changed much in centuries, the gay lobby's lies notwithstanding.

And still, religious conservatives are convinced that recognizing homosexual marriage will lead to a massive social disruption . . . .

The homosexual revolution is about gaining political power ...

In a sense. More accurately, it is a dialectical tool, a wedge that is being wielded by the Left to split the edifice of the status quo, to overthrow the values of the stodgy bourgeoisie and bring about the cultural (and political) revolution that will elevate the proletariat to their rightful station.

It has nothing to do with sex.

I think the truth is somewhere between your two respective perspectives on the 'homosexual revolution'...

PS I also think that it's very much possible for the percentage of those engaging in homosexual activity to have been, say, 9% back in the 50s, 3% back in the early 90s, and 6% in the present time. I don't believe the overall evidence supports the concept of sexuality as predetermined at birth.

2.8% admitting to being homosexual and 10% actually being homosexual is not necessarily a conflict.

It is from a scientific standpoint. If one could just guess at the number since it is unidentifiable, why not claim 60% and call it a majority mandate?

Even Liberals wouldn't believe that one.

My point is that it is a fools game because any possible survey is gonna be wrong.
