I don't believe in mandates. Winning elections give you the stage. If you perform well you get to keep it. If you don't you don;t get to keep it.

I'm just thinking that some RATS will think, look since our man got "more votes" than their man, why not turn the tables, make ARNIE win a yes/no recall. And let some RAT replacement have to win only a plurality.

Oddly, I have friends who voted "No" on recall and McClintock for governor for personal principle reasons (don't ask me). Yet these people absolutely despised Davis. A "no" vote on recall should not be construed as a "yes" vote for Davis. If there wasn't a vote for the recall and just a vote for governor, they would have given Davis the finger.

Like many, I've cancelled my LA Times subscription. I cancelled it about 2 months ago but I like to call every few weeks. I called today and it went...something like this:

Me (pleasantly): Hi, I cancelled my subscription a couple months ago and I was hoping I could cancel it again.

Operator (confused): aaaaaa...

Me: Is my subscription still cancelled?

Operator (tap tap tap): Yes, sir I show that it is.

Me: Is this anyway I could cancel it again...just to make sure that it's really cancelled?

Operator (on to my smarta$$): No, sir is there anything else I can do for you?

Me: No, I just wish I could cancel my subscription again. Thank You.

I really shouldn't enjoy doing this as much as I do.

Davis had no competition other than himself. Arnold had to deal with both Bustamecha and McClintock. You are comparing apples and oranges.

I have had a grin on my face for hours, and it won't go away... for once, finally, I have a lot of hope for California's future, for once I am proud of the California people... It is great.

Cheer up. The biggest GOP/pro recall swing in the state vis a vis the 2000 election was in you guessed it, Los Angeles County. Maybe a few smaller counties had a bigger swing which doesn't matter overall, but I doubt it. The swing against Davis in the recall election in LA County vis a vis the Bush vote was simply massive. A two to one Gore over Bush vote in LA county was reduced to maybe a 4-5%% Davis margin when all the votes are counted.

Arnold did NOT run as a liberal. If he had, he would have lost. Gray Davis and Cruz Bustamante ran to the Left and lost big. This was NOT a mandate to continue Sacramento's tax and spend ways.

It doesn't really matter, of course. It's just a matter of what kind of line the RATS will spin. If Davis does come out ahead of Arnold, the same Sore Loserman types who still think Bush is illegit, will think something similar about Arnold.

Since it's pretty easy to get a recall started in CA, I wouldn't be surprised if those folks use the recall process for payback, especially if things go to hell and a handbasket in the next budget cycle here in CA.

You may not realize it but Gray and the dems -- with the help of a few repugs -- balanced the current budget basically by making it harder to balance the next budget.

We'll see what happens

I just read Prop 54. I think it's arguable that voters could be confused in thinking a "NO" vote supported the proposition.

I saw some misleading language in the proposal that could easily make one think voting "NO' was to stop the California government from collecting race data.

But that's just me.

If you want to find out what happens to the dems, just think of a little child losing everything, drip by drip, they will be focused on California and then.... they'll lose the California or New York Senate seats.

Arnold is the slickest, the apex of marketing, he is the best marketing campaign in the most powerful state in the most powerful nation.... the Perfect Storm, in the most positive way.

Actually, getting a recall together is a lot harder than the Rats want you to believe. Money alone won't do it. Right now, people want results, not payback politics. They will give Arnold a chance to start putting things into action, and if he rescinds the car tax and helps stop SB-60, he'll have more than enough political capital that any Rat-sponsered recall effort will die on the vine.

The budget deal was a complete shell-game that is already unravelling in the courts and on Wall Street, so the Rats are going to have to play ball on that score as well. The budget was not balanced as you claim. In fact, what happened is that 11 Billion dollars was moved off the books by borrowing against future budgets. However, this is illegal in California (you can't deficit finance over $300,000 without the consent of voters), so the budget deal is already being held up in court. And the bonds that were issued to provide the borrowed money are being rejected by investors.

The Rats realize that right now, Arnold has a bully pulpit unprescendented in California politics. This was as much about the Rat power elite as it was about Davis. The voters have put them on notice, and you could here it in the way some of the loyalists were talking... Brown, Sanchez, Burton were all sounding a note of cooperation.

Arnold's going to start with a complete, independent audit of the state's finances. That is going to be shining an uncomfortable light on quite a few legislators and Sacramento insiders.

I think the Rats are going to be willing to work with Arnold more than anyone can imagine.
