From Moscow to his hometown, Arnold Schwarzenegger's victory in California was cheered Wednesday as a uniquely American political triumph with more drama and suspense than a Hollywood script.

After partying the night away, Austrian dignitaries and admirers in Schwarzenegger's home region celebrated his win by claiming him anew as one of their own.

He is not an Austrian, he is an American and his hometown is Los Angeles,

You hometown is where you grew up, whether in America or not. It shows in your accent.

Calling Graz his hometown makes him sound like a foreigner

Well, that's fair enough. But usually when I say "my home town", I'm specifically talking about where I was born and raised, not where I am presently residing.

"Many people in the world -- and in America -- now know where Styria is."

No, actually, we don't.

You should. The soldiers of the Steiermark defended the eastern flanks of Christendom from the perfidious Turks for centuries. If you're glad you are not a Muslim, thank the Styrians.

I think it says something counter to the way Republicans are portrayed that we have an Austrian immigrant as a Republican governor. Perhaps we will have a chance to vote in the first woman, and first black, as POTUS, in the person of Dr. Rice. Now that would be a mind blower for the media, Demorats and black Americans.

I think Tom got lucky he didn't throw the election. Either that or he knew he didn't have a chance for some time.

Bustamante is still conceding. How long were we supposed to wait?

This is all behind us now. I think Arnold said as much in his speech.

His speech wasn't much of a concession. He kept droning on about what a great victory the overturn of Prop 54 was. It was rather silly.

But, to a man, they simply cannot believe that we would elect an Austrian

Because they would never elect an American.

Let's get REAL picky! He lives in Pacific Palisades, not Los Angeles.

A question for the ladies, or the queer eye for the straight gals. Last night my wife asked the important political question of the evening, and I heard no commentor mention it. She said "Why is Maria wearing white after Labor Day?". Inquiring minds want to know.

Why do you distort things, ambrose?

This is totally unproductive and a waste of time, but here it is for the record:

You guys -- as in you, McClintock supporters -- should be very glad that Schwarzenegger won and not Bustamante, despite your efforts at electing Bustamante.

If Bustamante had won, because of McClintock and his supporters, it would have poisoned the Republican party in California for years to come.

As it is, Arnold is a generous winner and is holding out an olive branch. What is interesting, is that Davis appears to be willing to take it, but I am not sure of the fellow Republicans, which is a sad commentary of the McClintock supporters -- it appears a personal cult is what is important, not the wellbeing of California or the nation.

13.3% .. and he probably would have gotten more than that if it weren't for all those bogus polls showing a tight race, and due to the last minute LA Times smear.

Seems like only yesterday you were the one pushing those polls.

Yet, all night long, the same group of vicious trolls did nothing but attack Tom
and his supporters, and even taunted us about his low percentage.

Sincerely, I say shame on those folks.
And I voted for Ahnold (mostly out of fear of not driving a stake into the
heart of Bustamante's bid).

I just hope that as THE AUDIT is going on, Ahnold can turn to Tom and get the
solid info on where to take the carving knife to the excesses of the guvmint.
Ahnold will need that help because, as I naively understand, Ahnold will only
have real control over about 10-20% of the total budget.
