If in fact these charges against Limbaugh are borne out, here's what I'd like to hear him say: "Yeah, I do drugs. Mountains of them. But I don't bother anyone. I'm rich. I don't have to stick up 7-Elevens to pay for my habit. So it's none of the government's business."

It wouldn't surprise me if that's what Rush really thinks, but the man lacks the integrity to come right out and say it. I don't have an especially high opinion of Rush or his groupies; as far as I'm concerned, they deserve each other.

The treatment facilities, even the very best of them, only educate the patient and help them to "dry out"; after that they are on their own. And most people fail to remain alcohol and drug free for long when they go it alone.

This is why ALL the treatment centers in the U.S. introduce their patients to Alcoholics Anonymous and/or Narcotics Anonymous. There is no cure for this problem once it takes hold, only a daily reprieve. The addicted person needs ongoing help and support, and A.A. or N.A. is the best support system on earth - and it's free. Otherwise they just keep returning to detoxes and treatment centers over and over again.

So yes, my friend, even "poor Democrats" can get all the help they need, and for free. Posh facilities mean nothing whatsoever to the person going through withdrawals, shakes, hallucinations and confusion.

Conservatism can only mean one thing: conserving the beliefs, laws, folkways, practices and culture of the nation and looking askance at any attempt at radical change of the above. Rush isn't much of a conservative, he's an entertainer, as he has said on many occasions. Anyone who thinks Howard Stern is conservative should have his head examined (saying what I think should happen to Howard would be a violation of the rules of this board). This idea that conservatives are all about "getting government off our backs" is nonsense. No conservative in the 1950s, for example, would have favored legalizing drugs or porn, and they certainly would not have tried to pump up legalization into some sort of social-political philosophy. You may favor drug legalization but to say that legalization is the true conservative position because it is against "Big Government" has no historical basis.
