Yesterday morning, agents raided a small financial firm run by two Street supporters, including one of Philadelphia's most prominent Muslim leaders. Under Street's administration, the firm got a no-bid city contract to collect delinquent taxes.
I've read four articles on this already this AM, but I believe this article misses the fact that the financial firm itself, owes the city over $17,000 in business taxes. Nice work outta you, Street!

I cannot wait for this to go down. I dislike Street and have always thought him to be a crook.

A mayor tied into Muslims. There is mention about the international airport. Airport, Muslims, mayor?
You may be giving Street too much credit. I don't think he has the mental capacity to link separate scams together. The trademark of his administration has been hamfisted policy, "the dog ate my homework" explanations, and overt corruption and favoritism.

I wonder who tipped off Mayor Street about the bug.It turned up when his office was swept for bugs, according to the Philly papers.

I'd like to believe that Street will be defeated in the next election, however I have my doubts. The DemocRATS have held Philly hostage for 50 years, and I doubt it will end. As long as Street has that D by his name, the brain dead idiots in that crumbling city will vote for him. I think you're right. Allegations of wrongdoing only seem to help the Rats politically. The more dirt that comes out, the more votes he'll get ("he's a playah"). If he gets indicated his poll numbers will go through the roof. If he goes to jail he'll probably win in a landslide, and he and his brothas and sistahs will run the city from the cellblock. This is Northeast Rat politics at its finest.

Rizzo was a Dem, but it was a pretty transparent affiliation, kind of a DINO I guess. His son, Frank Jr, is a Republican City Councilman and an upstanding individual in his own right.
Frank Sr. passed away durring his campaign for mayor in 1991. RIP Frank.

Actually, I was thinking about why the FBI was involved. Linking mayor, muslims, and airport together should cause some questions about security at the FBI or Homeland Security.

I wonder why they decided to do the sweep.I read in another article that the sweeps of City Hall every few months was routine.

Street has always been shady and will always be shady. I hope the people of Phila. see the light and toss him out of office. Katz should win. But Street and his cronies will probably be successful in painting themselves as victims of the racist VRWC. He'll adopt the "b***h set me up defense" and coast home to victory. Shortly thereafter, he will be dragged form City Hall in handcuffs and the Deputy Mayor or whoever's second in line will take over and the corruption will continue.

"I would say that the evidence reinforces my view that this is an administration engaged in cronyism, secrecy, nepotism, and sweetheart deals for their friends," Katz said.

This is what I found in the Philly Inquirer:
The bug, with multiple microphones, was found Tuesday by Philadelphia police conducting a sweep of the office. Police Commissioner Sylvester M. Johnson has said that the sweep was part of a policy of periodically checking the office for bugs.
The mayor's office was last swept around June and no bugs were found.

Street has always been shady and will always be shady.I think Gov. Rendell felt a chill go up his spine yesterday. There's no telling how far back the investigation might reach.

I was pleased to see the name of Philadelphia U.S. Attorney Patrick Meehan in this article. My husband went to school with Pat. He's a real no-nonsense guy; someone you want on your side. He's very well connected among Republicans and his career has been moving along smartly. This looks promising. I just hope the breadth and depth of the findings haven't been compromised too much by the revelation of the bugs at this point in the investigation. The Streets have attained more polish in recent years, but polish doesn't change one's character.

Is this a common practice in mayoral offices? Call me naive, but the fact that they do these periodic sweeps makes it look as if someone has something to hide.

I don't know if this is common practice, but I do know when our new county executive took office (an R) earlier this year, she had her office swept, much to the howls of the county board--the board objected to her paying for the sweep out of her already-strained budget.
