Bowers, the vampire

A VICAR tried to stop two Dracula fans terrorising him by writing them letters addressed "Dear Vampires", a court heard.
Rev Chris Rowberry, 45, stuck the messages on the church noticeboard - and left the pair a book written by a Christian.
He told a jury yesterday: "They wrote me letters signed 'Vampires' so that is how I addressed them. There was theological debate in our correspondence."
The vicar said he was "frightened and distressed" at the hate campaign by self-styled vampires Scott Bower and Ben Lewis, who the court heard drank each other's blood.
Harassment included late-night howling in the churchyard, fireworks fired at the vicarage and obscene notes.
Elderly churchgoers at historic St Mary the Virgin in Eling, Hants, were also afraid, Southampton Crown Court heard.
Hotel porter Lewis, 25, and jobless Bower, 26, are said to have kept up their bizarre campaign for three months.
They and Lewis's student girlfriend Natalie Gibson, 19, also allegedly bombarded the vicar's home with spooky midnight phone calls.
Rev Rowberry's wife Karen, 46, wept as a recording was played in court of a call featuring a cackling electronic voice. She said her life had been made a "nightmare."
Lewis and Gibson, both of Totton, Hants, and Bower, of Eling, deny religiously aggravated harassment. The trial continues.
