I'm pretty sure that the principle of double-effect applies, where a single action results in two effects. If the secondary effect is "less evil" than the primary effect, then the action is permissible.
So in an ectopic pregnancy, for example, the primary action of removing the baby saves the mother's life but also results in the secondary effect of killng the baby. In this case the secondary effect is "the same or less evil" than the primary action.
The mother may choose to give her life for her child in some cases (as when a mother has uterine cancer, for example). But I don't think this is necessary. It would certainly be an example of heroic virtue.
I just found this yesterday. Great resource!
Why do I have the feeling that the media is going to mangle this?

I wonder if the wolves will leave the flock now that they've been exposed?

That's like hamburgers and corn flakes. No comparison. It is the constant teaching of the Church that the government has the right to administer the death penalty. It is the judgement of the Pope and many bishops that the government should refrain from exercising this right when life without parole is sufficient to protect society.
Oh, the libs will demand lots of stuff. They'll demand anyone who doesn't raise taxes should be denied communion. But they ain't gonna get it. This is for black and white issues.
Now here is someone dedicated to their faith! Good riddance.
Nope. Remember that politicians are egoists; they will re-appear at Catholic churches just as if nothing ever happened.
Now it's up to the parish pastors to handle them.
Wow. I wish I had that courage. I'm sure her reward in heaven will be great. God love her.
