After all, they are given carte blanche authority to make whatever adaptations they want in every aspect of the liturgy, and they police themselves as far as deciding whether these adaptations are "according to the fundamental norms."

I see.

So it can be left to subjective whims then, as long as they follow what is written in the Cathechism.

Which seems to me, wide as the Grand Canyon, no?

I choose to attend Mass at an SSPX chapel, that's all--and this is permitted

Keep trying to convince yourself, UR.

Reread Msgr. Perle's last letter. Even you may learn something. Catholics are permitted to attend SSPX Masses--and why on earth not? They are valid, they do not undermine the Catholic faith in the way Novus Ordo Masses do, and the priests who celebrate preach the Gospels, not New Age theology or Dr. Laura's pop psychology.

By the way, the Society has been blessed. It has had a surprising increase in vocations lately. You'll be seeing a lot more of the Society in the future as a result, not less. Rather than close-down churches, it is looking to purchase. Shouldn't be difficult to do, given the implosion of the Novus Ordo dioceses and the many churches put up for sale to raise hush money for sex abuse victims.

Exactly. Except that it is not the Catechism which is the guide. In fact no one seems to be quite sure what is the guide, which in effect makes their leeway even wider than the grand canyon. There was the old GIRM which is being replaced by a new GIRM. But neither one really specifies the "fundamental norms" outside of which the adaptations required of the bishops are not supposed to stray.

Wow.

Makes me feel all the more blessed and grateful to finally have a new bishop here in the Phoenix Diocese, who will soon allow the Tridentine Mass to be said in some of our parishes.

Any and all are welcome to visit here for some spiritual refreshment!

Blessings to you, Max ;)

Rush out because they can't stand being near Christ? If the Mass is an abomination as you intimate (and I disagree), then rushing out would be like deserting Christ as He hangs on the cross. That is the time when we most need to lead by example and make up for the sacrileges by honouring and praising Him even more .... not by rushing out the door!!

How many of these early leavers (Judas imitators) make the effort to come and adore Christ when the Church is empty? I think you are simply trying to cover your guilty conscience by making lame excuses!

Wrong. People rush out the door because the new Mass itself is so woefully deficient. It makes a mockery of Catholic beliefs, emulating as it does the Protestant Lord's Supper worship service--exactly as Trent warned we should not do. Any real Catholic who recognizes the theological implication of what's going on would rightly feel offended and would seek to leave as soon as possible once the obligation to attend Mass was literally fulfilled. The fault lies with the faithless churchmen who concocted this abomination and imposed it upon us illicitly.

Ultima,

How can you decide why people rush out of church? Are you every person? I've seen some of the people who rush out and believe me Christ and reverence is the last thing on their minds.

You failed to address the issues of why none of these fervent Catholics who love God so much are not found adoring Christ when the Mass is over and the Church is empty except for Our Lord. Also you fail to address how leaving Mass is any different than leaving Jesus while He was hanging on the Cross. This is surely when He needs your adoration most?
