Royal Oak, Michigan, 26 January 2005------ A Roman Catholic nun who has dedicated her work to creating communication and dialog within the church on the subject of homosexuality and acceptance of gays and lesbians has been barred from a Royal Oak Catholic Church facility, along with the group that had invited her and a local gay rights organization. Sister Jeannine Gramick, who will be in Metro Detroit for a weekend screening of a documentary based on her work, was to be the guest at a reception in her honor hosted by Call to Action of Michigan, a progressive Catholic social action organization. The film, In Good Conscience, is on the roster of films being presented at the Reel Pride Michigan Gay & Lesbian Film Festival presented by Triangle Foundation. Barbara Rick, the film’s producer/director will appear with Sister Gramick on the program.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Royal Oak offered its facilities to Call to Action several weeks ago. Early this week when reception organizers visited the church to make final arrangements they were informed that an official from the Archdiocese, Bishop Walter Hurley, had issued the order banning Sister Gramick and the event from the building.

“Disappointed and uncalled for,” said Sister Gramick when informed of the Archdiocese action. “Decisions like that are what makes the Church look foolish in the eyes of the world. It’s embarrassing to me as a Catholic that the leaders of my Church would censor,” she concluded.

“This is typical of the Archdiocese which continues to try to silence its members and refuses to engage in any helpful dialog at all,” said Jeffrey Montgomery, Executive Director of Triangle Foundation. “It’s a shame, really, that the Church is so frightened of dissent, is so intolerant. The leaders must not be too confident of their convictions if they must go to such lengths to stifle disagreement.

“The Church has been so hurtful to so many who seek only reconciliation and healing,” said Sister Beth Rindler of Call to Action. “At times its very disheartening working within the Church because of the action of people who are at the helm of the Archdiocese.”

Call to Action has vowed to hold the reception for Sister Gramick at another, more welcoming location.

For over thirty years Jeannie Gramick has done pioneering work in ministering to gay and lesbian Catholics, initiating pastoral outreach to the gay community, counseling gays and lesbians and their families and writing two books and numerous articles. She is a Co-founder of New Ways Ministries, whose goal was to build bridges between the institutional church and homosexuals. Her work in these areas earned her a permanent ban in 1999 endorsed by Pope John Paul II from any pastoral work involving gays. She chose to ignore the Church’s efforts to silence her. The “rebel nun” could not, “in good conscience” remain silent.

Triangle Foundation is Michigan’s leading civil rights and advocacy organization working on behalf of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community. Since 2003 Triangle Foundation has produced Reel Pride Michigan, the state’s largest film festival, celebrating the love, life and diversity of the GLBT community.

This "nun" was referred to by the late Fr. Malachi Martin as "Sr. Helen Hammentick" in his writings!

But no wry humour can erase the sheer damage to souls which this woman has wreaked.

What should happen is that a Bishops - or the Bishops of this nation, acting in unity, should formally excommunicate her with bell, book, and candle as a heretic and apostate, and formally expell her from her religious order - and ban her from access to ALL facilities of the Catholic Church in this nation.

But this will not happen - as most of the bishops in the US are in material heresy/schism (since they knowingly tolerate it/allow it to flourish). They will not restrain and discipline their diocesan clergy - ergo it is no surprise that they will not put her out on her behind!

No, the problem is that hte Church has been all too tolerant of dissent against her moral teachings. Those with same sex attraction are called to chastity, and that call is the most compassionate and pastoral thing that can be done -- not affirming sinful activity by the embrace by the Church of the gay activist ideologies of "gay pride".

Absolutely. He ran the cleanest courtroom in all of Christendom. But he had zero tolerance for heresy. Jeff the Queer is whining about 'censorship'; he's distressed that "they must go to such lengths to stifle disagreement." If he thinks that disinviting a lesbo-nun is "such lengths", perhaps we should remind him that in the past, the Church was far less tolerant of his ilk. I think the Church was better off being less tolerant of error.

I think his reasons for whining are not motivated by the glory of God, but by the fulfillment of self.

Torequemada might have been a little shy on the kindly mercy side, but he was honest and true and believed.

We need more who are honest and true and believe.

If you can't justify your behavior by the teaching of the church, then which one needs to change? You and I, I am sure, know the answer here. More of the "liberal activists" need to consider that question carefully. Their souls may depend on it.

Solemn Warning! The following organizations are those who claim to be Catholic but dissent from the Truth as handed down from Jesus Christ, Second Person of the Most Blessed Trinity, the Divine Word, to His Apostles and their successors, the Pope and the Magisterium. These organizations are truly following in the footsteps of JUDAS - Just Undermine Doctrine And Spirituality. While they claim to be Catholic, they promote a man-made religion of unfettered pro-sin "choice" by the individual answerable to no one but himself (herself for the feminist reader), while promoting the spirituality of pagans. We all know what the serpent said to Eve; "you shall be as Gods" (Genesis 3:5).

At the same time, their mission statements and goals are disguised in shrewd words, usually in terms of "rights," "equality" and "social justice." But the Bible warns us of such a state of affairs; "I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves [clergy] will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be alert" (Acts 20:29-31). "And what I do I will continue to do, in order to undermine the claim of those who would like to claim that in their boasted mission they work on the same terms as we do. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is not strange if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds" (2 Corinthians 11:12-15). "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? A Call to Action

The most visible dissenting group which is a movement of laity and religious seeking to reform the "sinful structure" of the "patriarchal" Church. One could call them the "mother of all dissenting groups" - feminist pun intended. CTA is infamous since its 1994 conference coverage on the CBS news program 60 Minutes. CTA promotes dissent against Church teachings on a broad front, including women's ordination, homosexuality, creation spirituality, married priesthood, and liturgical reforms, while incorporating new age and Wiccan spirituality. Bishop Bruskewitz excommunicated those that belong to this group in his Diocese. Many members belong to local  groups called "small faith communities." Renew 2000 also promotes small faith communities. Membership draws heavily from former clergy, feminist nuns, and homosexuals. Members staff COR.
