In the News section of my favorite search engine, I typed the single word "diocese". These were the top stories for today, February 16, 2005:
NJ DIOCESE TO PAY $5M
A report of over 2 dozen men claiming abuse in the Diocese of Paterson, who settled for 5 million dollars. Although five million dollars may sound like a lot of money, it's only 1/20th of the amount the Diocese of Orange had to pay out when it forked out one hundred million. Whew.
Diocese pays $65,000 to abuse victim
65 grand to one victim, relatively speaking, has become chump change when one takes a look at the larger picture. We've fallen so far that stories where the payout is less than many millions have become good news.
N.Va. Priest Charged in Child Porn Probe
Just another run of the mill report about another priest caught with lots of kiddie porn. Anyone want to bet that the majority of photos were of boys? Didn't think so.
8 area priests accused in '04
8 priests in one diocese within a one year period.
Oakland bishop to host abuse apology service
Apology for guess what. Another boy-raping priest.
NY ARCHDIOCESE TO SHUT 6 SCHOOLS
Whew. Not very good News, but a story about hundreds of Catholic families not being able to send their children to Catholic schools is a refreshing break from gay criminal child abusers.
Gomez will face declining number of priests
Installation of a new bishop is supposed to be good news... right?
Group says Dubuque Diocese is too slow to release abuse ...
There's nothing happening in Iowa, not even potato sack races (that's Idaho). Nothing of course except the local diocese being descended upon as a result of sexual criminals.
Games Bishops Play: Why DA Bill Hill should be wary
Unlike Iowa there are things happening in Dallas, including a full blown DA investigation of the local diocese for criminal sexual activity.
Save St. Thomas Aquinas, parents plead
This is just one New York Catholic school out of a record breaking 22 within its diocese being closed.
Catholics protest plan to close Toledo Diocese churches
Toledo diocese closing or merging 33 parishes.
Lake Charles diocese shutting down seven churches
Only seven? What a bunch of slackers.
The stories listed above are not the result of internet sleuthing or lengthy investigation. They prominent headlines found on the very first two Google pages from only one single day's News. A quick glance shows millions of dollars paid out, dozens of closed schools and parishes, child rape investigations, lawsuits, disgraced priests and a disturbing shortage of priests to lead the flock.
Just another day in this springtime of the Catholic Church.

We are a Good Friday people.
Could be a reflection of the media's war against the Church. Seems like negative news is emphasized and positive news is verboten.
The problem is that even if no matter how negative the media chooses to be, the News regarding American Church has never been nearly this bad.
Just a few decades ago - save for the occasional perv priest - you wouldn't be reading any of these stories.
It's the sign of the times unfortunitely.
BTW, I put up your news ticker on my site. Thanks again.
Ordained in 1961, therefore must have been a seminary student during the 1950s.
Reference to the ComPost article Link #3.
He was removed from the priesthood in 2002, 17 years after church officials learned of complaints against him.
...
The statement also said that he [Hanley] had admitted to Rodimer in 1984 that he had molested about a dozen boys.
No clue as to when Hanley and Rodimer were trained or ordained.
Dangit, didit again. That's reference Link #1, the NY Post article.
John F. Dougherty Jr., 61, who lives in Las Vegas, Nev., said the Rev. Edward B. Carley raped him when he was 10 years old, serving as an altar boy at St. Ann's Church in Wilmington. Carley served as assistant pastor there from 1954 to 1962. Dougherty said he was in contact with Carley for more than 10 years and was abused repeatedly by him.

Kool. What is the url to your site again?
In March, the Denver archdiocese announced that it could substantiate claims against seven diocesan priests who abused 21 victims since 1950. The archdiocese said it had spent nearly $1 million on settlements and counseling during that period.
Not sure I understand your point. Or are you holding out that all or a majority of the problems highlighted in the articles above are because of priests who were ordained in the 50s?
" Just another day in this springtime of the Catholic Church."
Looks like that springtime of perversity was going strong in the '50s, and maybe earlier ... but the earlier victims are conveniently dead. The difference between now and the '50s is that the perversity is being uncovered and dealt with. It casts clearer light on the Papal directive in 1960 that fags were not to be admitted to seminaries or to be ordained. There appears to have been a good reason for the Pope to issue that directive.
The lack of priests and the consequent closing (or in my diocese, delay in opening) of churches is directly related to delay in purging the priesthood of poofters. See "Goodbye, Good Men" for details.
Some folks like to blame the Vatican II Bogeyman for all evil in the Church. Trouble is, the evil that they are rightly protesting is older than Vatican II. Some folks are uncomfortable with that fact. They shouldn't be. The Truth will make you free.
The revelation of all this perversity, and the consequent cleansing of it is a springtime sort of thing. It's spring cleaning. And it's about bloody time. Perhaps the upheaval following Vatican II was necessary in order to bring all sorts of festering evil to the surface where it could be dealt with. The Holy Spirit Knows what He's doing, and I'm not about to second guess Him. Perhaps you would rather that this mess just continued to be swept under the rug, like it was in the '50s?
There's no Resurrection without the Crucifixion; no Easter without Lent, no Christmas without Advent; no Absolution without Confession. And there's no purging of the poofters without first publicly identifying the poofters and making reparation (to the extent that such can be done) for their sins.
That said, there is no arguing that they were nowhere near as prolific as they've become. Whether or not that's a direct result of V-II is hard to determine. In fact I would be inclined to believe that as problematic as Vat II is, in and of itself it doesn't have much to do with prolific faggery.
I also typed in diocese at Google News about an hour ago. The top three were there as you listed them but #4 was good news.
It might be more accurate to say these are among the top stories on the first two pages.
And yes, it is very difficult to read the facts related to corruption and perversity within the Church.

There is your info in "bishop" Rodimer of New Jersey. Please note who ordained/consecrated him.
The nut does not fall very far from the tree.
