With not much time left on our clock here, what the heck, in the spirit of Catholic truth and for the sake of history, we're going to start smoking them out:

The Marxist Nicaraguan "priest" Ernesto Cardenal flashing a secret society hand sign. The Pope rebuked him publicly during a visit to Nicaragua in 1983. If anyone HAS that photo, please post it.

The defeat of Communism was one of the Pope's greatest achievements.

A favorite photo magneted to our refrigerator door is that of John Paul II shaking a finger of reprimand at a kneeling Ernesto Cardenal when the Pope visited Nicaragua in 1983. Poet-priest Cardenal was, against the instructions of the Vatican, Minister of Culture in the Sandinista government from 1979 to 1990. The Sandinistas were defeated in democratic elections in 1990, but under former president Daniel Ortega have continued to control the army and security forces. Sixteen years after he hailed their revolution as exemplifying the justice demanded by liberation theology, Fr. Cardenal has left the Sandinista movement, accusing Ortega and other leaders of "corruption and lack of morals."

Why he acted in the Cardenal case but not in some of these others is also strange. Health problems and aging?
