If you don't do so already, I highly recommend the pious use of the St. Benedict Medal, in this age where the "evil spirits... prowl about the word, seeking the ruin of souls." See if you can get a Benedictine to bless it, in the traditional manner, though any priest has the faculties to bless it.

There is a nice Benedictine monastery in Schuyler, NE that I get mine from, blessed by a Benedictine priest.

This is the icon of St. Benedict that I own. It's not a traditional depiction of him, but I like how the raven is holding the thorn bush, which points to the story of St. Benedict rolling in thorn bushes when he experienced a temptation of the flesh.

In the West yes, where, alas, it needed preservation. :)
...and, alas, needs preservation again now.

(read my new tagline) You beat me to it. It is one of his memorable quotes that fits in a tagline. I hope you don't mind it I use it, too.

It should be interesting to see if Pope Benedict XVI chooses this symbol for his crozier! It looked like he was using JPII's crozier in his first Mass as Pope this morning. Maybe that is only until he finds or has made his own crozier. It will also be interesting to see his coat of arms.

It would be real nice if you gave it a rest now and again. We just received a new Pope we would like to celebrate just a little bit if that is okay with you. If you want to join in on the Pope and Catholic bashing my I suggest you get a job at CBS. I hear they are looking for a new anchor.

I'm sure Kolo meant no harm with his comments.

Given the article, perhaps Pope Benedict XVI would like to use this on his crozier:
Devoco ille in!
Bring it on!

perhaps Pope Benedict XVI would like to use this on his crozier - Devoco ille in! Bring it on! Think they can find a spot to place this on the crozier as well?

Pope and Catholic bashing??? What in heaven's name are you talking about? I post an icon of the new Pope's namesake with the Orthodox prayers relating to it which, at least to me seem highly appropriate especially for the new Pope and descriptive of what many Romans and Orthodox hope he will accomplish and you think this is bad? Or perhaps you would have prefered to argue that St. Benedict did not, by means of his Rule, in effect save Western civilization in the Dark Ages. The East at that time had a glittering and sophisticated civilization, the West didn't. The culture of the West needed saving and St. Benedict did just that. That's the point of the prayers I posted and what the new Pope seems to want to do. How is that Pope bashing?

You're welcome. There are a number of icon galleries on the internet. I just look for them and copy the ones which aren't copyrighted. Google and Yahoo will find most anything.
