I have noticed that people around the Pope seem genuinely happy. I don't mean the "hey, I got to see the Pope" happy, but genuinely happy to be in his presence.

I agree. The media has pretty much gone on to the next story, but those of us who love this Pope still want to see pictures - every day! We can't get enough!

I am HAPPY to see most of MSM move on to other subjects, given the bent of most of their coverage of this great and humble man.

Pope Tells Why He Chose Name of Benedict

VATICAN CITY, APR 27, 2005 (VIS) - In his first general audience, which was held this morning in St. Peter's Square in the presence of 15,000 people, the Pope again gave thanks to God for having elected him as Peter's successor, and explained why he chose the name of Benedict.

I think your observation is spot on, MM.

I know I've just managed to extract a promise from my husband to take me to Rome next year to see this Pope.

I'm glad for his willingness to reach out, personally, to the people.

He will truly be memorable as a people's pope.

Blessings to this humble man.

He's absolutely magnificent.
Now, if he can get some proper rest in the coming days.

He's been in a whirlwind since April 2nd.

I love seeing him. He makes me smile. He's just such a cute old guy. He reminds me of my Dad, who was a holy cute old guy too.

Uh-oh. They better not be thinking of mortgaging any Michelangelo!

BTW, does it give anyone else pause that the Popemobile top is off. Maybe I'm paranoid, but every time I see the Pope travel in the convertible Popemobile, I get a little nervous.

What great pictures!

I especially love this one:

Perhaps the shock is wearing off, and he's feeling a little more comfortable. It may sound silly, but I never met a Bavarian I didn't like.

That doesn't sound silly at all. I have always found that to be true as well.

If you are a Jacobite at heart and reject the progeny of the Electress of Hanover, the current Catholic ('Stuart') entitled to the throne of England, Scotland, and Ireland is Duke Francis of Bavaria.

Well, he's not the good country stock -- those are the Bavarians I know and love, the ones whose roots go down a couple of centuries deep. The old Bavarian royal house is kinda inbred and goofy . . . you may remember a certain Mad King Ludwig . . . they were originally Hapsburgs IIRC.

They suffered greatly during World War II. Many of them were sent by the Nazis to Dachau.
