>> My question is why would a Catholic seek a career as the elected representative of a body of people who have demonstrated a functional belligerence to Catholic doctrine and practice?

I am a Roman Catholic. Best I can tell, what remains of the adherents are delusional. Few of us practice our faith in real life, church is just something done for appearance.

It is "peace be with you" at mass, and "God help you" if you get in my way on the way out of St. Mary's parking lot afterwords.

Mass or "missa" means mission. At the end of the Mass, you are sent forth on your mission to proclaim the Gospel that you have just heard.

St. Francis of Assisi would take the friars to neighboring towns with the admonition: "Preach the Gospel - if necessary use words." Our role as Catholic christians is to do that each day - in our home, our workplace and our neighborhood. Catholic politiicians bear an even responsibility of carrying out that message.

Ahh, but the politicians like Kennedy(hic), CatBox, Feingold, and Harkin don't actually believe in the same Christ, they just pretend to so the Catholic vote falls their way.

Strictly speaking, I do not know that. When they take communion, they commit an act of sacrilege, which affects me. This I know.
