"But there are also those whose reason has led them to agnosticism."
Sure. GIGO is as true of the brain as of any other computer.
"That and my wife has told me that I gave up new books for Advent..."
Nice of her to let you know.
Practically all of GKC's works are available free on line.
She is good about that! Did the same for Lent. But I am a bibliophile, and she doesn't want to end up 30 years from now living in a private library.
It is ok though, being married has forced both of us to discipline our habits in areas that were lacking before. For instance, I can't buy tons of books and rifles (I love to collect them) and she has to limit the amount of shoes she gets.
You did an excellent job of explaining. Thanks for going to the trouble.
They add absolutely nothing. These are documents very often written centuries after the events to promote a particular heresy. The only interest they could have for the Christian scholar is understand the substance of the particular heresy being propogated by the document.
In fact, I believe Jesus wanted the events of His ministry recorded as they were taking place. Hence, His call of Matthew the Publican, a man of letters.
Some people are disturbed by Harry Potter. That is hardly a reason to ban something.
"Some people are disturbed by Harry Potter. That is hardly a reason to ban something."
I meant that I would get disturbed if I saw people on FR who are willing to "send undesired or unpopular facts and opinions down the memory hole."
You have taken statements to the effect that the material has already been examined and found wanting, and twisted them into calls for banning.
Actually I am more worried by those who see the material as not warranting examination much less found wanting and desire for it to be sent down the memory hole.
I think the real out, is to accept the fact, that we just do not know, and never will, and to admit it.
I think we believe as God made us...for whatever reason.
And this, I believe is as God wants it.
I cannot speak for Adam or Eve, but it does seems, what happened, was all part of God's plan.
As I said, we have differing views and beliefs.
I don't, that is in the heart of the individual, and between them and God.
